In 1991, a fifth grader named Cassidy Durango Milton Willy Podell asked his parents to buy him deejay equipment for his tenth birthday. When he was given two turntables and a mixer, DJ Cassidy was born. Today, Cassidy is simply the most sought-after deejay in his industry. The iconic deejay in music, fashion, media, and nightlife, Cassidy's notoriety, respect, demand, and talent are unparalleled.
Influenced at a young age by Run-DMC and cult-classic Hip Hop film Breakin', Cassidy turned his childhood passion into a job during his junior high and high school years in New York City. Cassidy describes these years as both "formative" and "limiting," as they provided him with definitive experience, but narrow audiences. DJ Cassidy's first big break in nightlife came in the summer of 1999 when he landed weekly gigs at several New York City hotspots. That fall, Cassidy attended George Washington University in Washington DC. He commuted home each week to maintain the club residencies and transferred to New York University in the fall of 2000 where he graduated in 2003. In the summer of 2000, DJ Cassidy began a three-year stint at West Village nightclub, Halo. With the teenage deejay at its helm, Sunday nights at Halo grew to be world-renowned party and a fixture in New York City nightlife, attracting many celebrity regulars including Sean "Diddy" Combs. Diddy began hiring Cassidy for all of his well-known events including his birthday parties, holiday parties, MTV Video Music Award parties, Grammy parties, fashion shows, and his legendary "White Party" in The Hamptons.
In addition to Combs, DJ Cassidy's personal celebrity client list now also includes President Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Kanye West, Russell Simmons, Kimora Lee Simmons, Anna Wintour, Tommy Hilfiger, LeBron James, Hugh Hefner, Tina Turner, Jermaine Dupri, Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, Nas, Mary J. Blige, Pharrell Williams, L.A. Reid, LL Cool J, The Black Eyes Peas, Kim Kardashian, and Naomi Campbell.
In 2001, Jennifer Lopez called on DJ Cassidy to provide the music for her Los Angeles wedding to Cris Judd. In 2007, Cassidy performed in South Africa at Oprah Winfrey's New Years Eve party to celebrate the opening of her Leadership Academy For Girls. Winfrey became a fan of the deejay after seeing him perform at music mogul L.A. Reid's 2006 fiftieth birthday party in New York City. In October of 2009, Jay-Z told GlobalGrind.com, "DJ Cassidy is my favorite deejay." The superstar enlists Cassidy for all of his and Beyonce's events, including their 2007 New York wedding. In 2009, Tina Turner called on Cassidy to deejay her seventieth birthday party in Zurich. That same year, DJ Cassidy was given the high honor of performing at President Barack Obama's Inaugural Ball. Cassidy also performed at the Democratic National Committee's "Welcome Home To Chicago" event for The President in July of 2009, and alongside Stevie Wonder at President Obama's fiftieth birthday party at The White House in August of 2011. Also that year, Kanye West recruited Cassidy to be his tour deejay; Cassidy provided the backdrop for West's Good Music concert at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, amongst others. In June 2011, DJ Cassidy was scheduled to perform at Hugh Hefner's Playboy Mansion wedding before the nuptials were called off. In August of that year, Kim Kardashian called on DJ Cassidy to provide the music for her wedding to Kris Humphries.
In addition to his long list of celebrity clients, DJ Cassidy routinely performs for many fashion, music, and media companies including Louis Vuitton, Victoria's Secret, Hugo Boss, Tory Burch, Patricia Field, Nike, The Gap, Audemars Piguet, Lorraine Schwartz, MTV, Sony, Island Def Jam, Warner Music Group, Sports Illustrated, and Vogue. Cassidy also performs regularly at the hottest nightclubs around the world from New York to Los Angeles, Miami to Las Vegas, St. Barths to St. Tropez, Paris to London, Tokyo to Dubai. In 2011, DJ Cassidy joined forces with The Roots' Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson for a monthly party called Rock/Freak in which the two musicologists deejay side-by-side, taking party-goers on a musical journey through genre and time. A well-known Michael Jackson super-fan and historian, Cassidy also throws his annual Remember The Time Michael Jackson Tribute every year on the day of the icon's passing.
DJ Cassidy is widely recognized as a leader and innovator in style. His ivy flair, bold colors, boater hats, cricket sweaters, leather pants, and unique take on classic menswear have established him as an iconic figure in fashion. Paper Magazine has named Cassidy one their most beautiful people, US Weekly and Time Out New York have both named him one of their most stylish, and the New York Post has named him one of their most eligible bachelors. Cassidy has starred in print campaigns for Tommy Hilfiger, Fila, and Rockport (with whom he released the DJ Cassidy Bridgeport Boat Shoe), a 2010 national and international television campaign for Blackberry, and the Comedy Central series Russell Simmons Presents The Ruckus, in which Cassidy acts as the deejay, co-host, and musical supervisor.
DJ Cassidy's annual New York City birthday parties have taken on legendary status and have become widely regarded as the "party of the year" in the music industry. Cassidy began throwing the grand bashes in 2001. Each year, the deejay enlists iconic old school performers such as Q-Tip, Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick, Big Daddy Kane, Naughty By Nature, Nice 'N Smooth, KRS-One, Rakim, Bell Biv Devoe, and Bobby Brown to surprise his guests. In 2009, Cassidy hosted his birthday at the New York Public Library and in 2011, he hosted his thirtieth at the Intrepid Sea, Air, & Space Museum where he reunited all six members of New Edition.
DJ Cassidy has gained worldwide acclaim for electrifying crowds through his unique capacity to effortlessly blend musical genre no matter the crowd or setting. His clients not only rely on him to capture sounds that are hot and cutting-edge, but also those that are classic and timeless. Drawing on all forms of music including hip hop, house, soul, rock n' roll, reggae, and more, Cassidy continues to astound audiences with his uncanny ability to connect musically to everyone within his reach. DJ Cassidy inspires all people with all music. In his words, "There is simply no crowd I can't move, and there is no better feeling than that."
