We started in 2004 officially under the name "Singled Out" playing regularly in the city of Ventura, mostly The Ventura Theatre, The Loft, American Legion Hall, The Hard Rock Cafe and The Knitting Factory. In 2005 after demos were recorded with first line-up, we then recorded our first debut CD "Epiphany" in 2005 at Brotheryn Studios in Ojai with Todd Hannigan, we were between the ages of 12 and 14 then.

Years past and we were forced to change our unofficial band title to "Black List", recycling songs we were writing with Singled Out because Singled Out seemed to outgrow our genre and reputations. By then our first bassist left the band and that's when we met Eric Zen Martinez who was a very gifted bass player. We recruited him and now we were officially Black List working with Aaron Goldberg of The Army of Freshmen. Black List played shows regularly in Ventura and a few out of town gigs here and there, as the Ventura scene was dumbing down and venues were opening and closing frequently. In 2006, Black List recorded a 12 song CD that was never released with Armand Tambouris at Satellite Studios in Ventura, produced by Aaron Goldberg. Prior to these recording sessions we released a 3 song demo to shop with including such hits as "Spin Me Up", "Concrete" and "Age of Confusion" a week before we played with the reformed Dead Kennedys at The Majestic Ventura Theatre.

We were, once again, forced to change our name due to other bands such as Blacklisted who were easily confused with us at the time. With many ideas floating around for band names we changed our name and played one show in Canoga Park at The Verity Room as the title "Generation Z" I forget why we didn't stick with it but it was for the better. We met two fine gentlemen of ThroBack Records who helped us develop, manage and produce this new project that we called "Dirty Words". Aaron Goldberg passed the torch and went his way. We recycled songs from Black List, refurbished the structures and parts to a more rawer and energetic feel that we were very happy with. By 2007 through 2009, we recorded many songs in a studio in Santa Clarita, made demos one of which was officially titled "FMA Sampler" that included chart toppers like This Revolution., Broken in Two and Can you hear the Guns?, we passed them out, played shows and showcased for many record companies, Artist + Repertoires in Los Angeles and Burbank.

Sometime in 2009, our long-time bassist Eric left the band to concentrate on work, education and his new home. We quickly recruited our good friend Ben Bernaldo that played guitar, so he played bass for us for the time being. Dirty Words played shows and showcased some more, recorded songs and practiced frequently. Also, hearing that the band name Dirty Words has already been in use by another in Wales - trademarked and copyrighted we went on a crucial search and very unsuccessful one to top the band name we had fallen in love with for so many years. Time went by, living separate lives at a time of individual leisure and time apart, the soon-to-be-renamed "Dirty Words" slowly fell apart, of course for the better.

The past is the past. We want to thank everybody for listening to us, going to our shows, buying or sporting our t-shirts, inviting us to play their birthday party and making friends with us. We hope for the time being, our music has inspired you to go make your own music and deliver a powerful message. This is not the end of us only for Dirty Words. It's only the beginning to something new and more powerful. Thank you for your time, we love you.
