Dimitris Katsoulis was born in 1983 in Athens, Greece. He comes from Epirus and especially from a wonderful village in the northern part of Arta district, called Katarraktis. His interest for music came up to surface back in 1994, at the age of 12, when for the very first time he played the toumbeleki (percussion instrument) on a traditional feast in his village. At that day he touched his colleague's violin with his hands and the story began to roll. Later at that year, he threatened his father that if he wouldn't buy him a violin, he would blow the whole damn house in the air! Finally. his father proved to be a wise man (as always) and subjected to Dimitris's will and bought him a violin. Dimitris at 1995 started taking lessons at Aristides Moschos's Traditional Music School, where he attended the toumbeleki (with Spyros Glenis as teacher) and violin courses (with Michalis Danias as teacher) for 4 months. He quit the traditional courses and started taking classical violin lessons for 6 months but soon got bored and decided to go on by himself. In the city of Volos at 2001, where he spent 5 years as a student in the local University (History and Archeology Department), he studied Phonetics and Vocalization for 2 years and Byzantine Music for 6 months. He is also an M.D. alumnus of Aristoteleion University of Thessaloniki and he is specialized on Byzantine Archaeology and Art.
He has co-operated either at times or stably with various known artists such as: Anna Karambesini, Maria Fotiou, Kaiti Koullia, Maria Thoidou, Dimitris Bassis, Bambis Tsertos, Panayotis Lalezas, Thomas Korovinis, Victor Berkan, Panayotis Terzakis, Antonis Fragiadakis, Giannis Blimakis, Fanis Fotopoulos, Stavros Kouskouridas, Alexandros Arkadopoulos, Christos Zotos, Giorgos Maggas, Aris Dinas, "Nea Taksi Pragmaton", "Nekriki Sigi" and others.
Dimitris works mainly as a traditional violinist and singer covering all types of traditional music expression of Greece. He works in his country and worldwide. He is a musician that studies and constantly explores all aspects of experimental and progressive sound, focusing on the details that each different music genre and style requires, producing an interesting blend of music variety. He is always open to every new and "fresh" music project that is stabilized on a professional basis.
