It all started with Beatrix in 96. The first Diabla songs were made on her 4-track recorder, and came to life after she got dumped really bad.
She started playing with another drummer, bassplayer and guitarist but that didn't work out. The drummer was replaced by Tarald Lie in 98 and a few weeks later the bassplayer left (he liked jazz.), replaced by Morten.
We did one gig and recorded a demo with our first guitar player, who we fired a couple of months later due to differences in the direction the
band was going to take. He said "He couldn't stand the double bass drums"That was early 99.
After that we hooked up with several guitar players, amongst others Marcus Paus, the fastes guitar player in the world (Guinness' book of records).
We recorded our EP "Everything Passes" in the fall of 99 with session guitar player Carl August Tiedemann, who had attended G.I.T. and had the technique and versitality we were looking for.
In early 2000 Stig Rolfsen was hired as the 4th member on guitar, and also keyboard player Lasse Finbråten of Circus Maximus and Soundborne joined for about 6 months. After one gig together Lasse quit due to lots of other projects he was involved with. He later appeared on the song "I'm the snake".
After that the four of us played lots of gigs, different clubs in Oslo, we opened up for TNT, we even did a show with the performance artist Pain
Solution, who uses pyro, cuts himself, staples himself, burns himself, pierces himself, ect The club still has blood spots on the extended stage setting we used that time!
Anyway, out of that we finally released the single "Small Talk / I'm the Snake" in 2002. We also made a video for Small Talk.
The video is about prostitution and was filmed in the prostitutiton area in Oslo (Oslo's red light district). The video producer/camera man had a gun in his car just in case. Beatrix and Morten wrote the screenplay.
We filmed it during wintertime and it was freezing as hell! The make up artist was very busy trying to hide the red noses. Morten walked around with a hole in his shoes and we tried keeping warm by drinking port wine.
Then, due to personal stuff (Yeah we don't spill it all here.), we fired Stig and started looking around for another guitar player. We landed on Kjell
"from hell" Karlsen, now in his band "Breed" as Damage Karlsen. He was in for about 2 years and we did lots of gigs around. From opening for
Stage Dolls to festivals in Sweden. We also recorded "Uh! All night" for the Norwegian tribute album to KISS called "Gods of Thunder".
Our version is dirtier than the original. Listen towards the end. Stanley/Simmons, go shit in a hat!
At one show we did at that time, these big oil company tie fucks come into the club, they were having a xmas party and DEMANDING that the club shut us down so they could dance. And they DID!!!!!!! We were on TV the night before with interview and live performance and premiere on our new video, and people were coming from all over to see us! They went mad and some even tried trashing the stage! Beers were flying.
Then we parted and we started looking for a new guitar player.
We started recording our CD which working title was, and still is, "I'll be damned" where we recorded 12 songs with another session guitar player
called Per Einar Watle. He also played one gig with us at this festival in the north of Norway.
After we started recording and mixing it we found out that we really were in need of 2 guitar players. So as of now we have the excellent guitar
maestros Edvard Nyløvold and Eirik Ulvo Langnes.
With this line up we recorded the track "Shout" for a tribute album to Stage Dolls released earlier this year.
Throughout the years we've done lots of gigs, from big halls and festivals to small clubs. We've played with performance artist, bigger productions with back up singers, ect. Anything to give the people a great show!
Yeah, that's us. That's Diabla for ya
