Remember when Rock “N” Roll was dangerous and fun? When music was about having a few beers, hanging out with good friends and having a good time. Life is serious and we all need an escape, so with that in mind let me introduce you to the Drunk, Metal, Punks from Baltimore, Maryland…Den Of Germs! In November 2003 long time friends Rob Michael- bass & vocals (Have Mercy, Fear Of God, Jakkpot) and Chris Kalandras- guitar & vocals (Fear Of God) were sitting in Rob’s basement blasting Venom, Carnivore, Ramones, Black Sabbath, Genocide Superstar, Disfear and drinking beer. The two came to a conclusion it was time to start a band. Fueled with their love for Thrash, Death, Doom, Black Metal, Crust, NYC Hardcore, Punk Rock, Alcohol and their hatred for the 12 hour a day going to work bullshit, they started writing songs. Locked in the basement (due to it’s toxic nature it became know as The Den Of Germs) the two rocked out until they had 24 songs. Next they called their old friend Nort- drums (Have Mercy) to see if he wanted in. Nort came down on a Tuesday and listened to the songs and said, “I like it, I gotta go”. Chris and Rob looked at each other and had another beer, next week Nort came back. The trio spent the next few months perfecting their music, sound and fine-tuning there live set. Summer of 2005 Den Of Germs hit the studio with veteran engineer, producer Drew Mazurek ( Nothingface, Gwar, Dog Fashion Disco, Byzantine). The result was the demo “The First Six” six songs influenced by the world’s greatest metal and punk bands. Next it was time to play out, the band played their first show at Baltimore’s legendary punk club The Sidebar. Then they spent the rest of the year playing every show they could get on. January of 2007 they went back into the studio, once again with Drew Mazurek at the controls. This time they recorded their self-financed, 13 song full length, simply called “Den Of Germs”. The band plans to spend the rest of 2007 searching for someone to put out the record and to play anywhere they can. Den Of Germs combines the influences of all their favorite bands, add a dash of anger, a sick sense of humor and a lot of alcohol to create their own brand of Drunk Metal Punk. Down tuned guitar, distorted bass, pounding drums, flanked by the dueling vocals of Rob and Chris. Their lyrics deal with everything from the dark depths of the human mind: alcoholism, war, murder, domestic violence, road rage, a tribute to fallen heroes, to drinking beer and partying with your friends on a Saturday night. Crushing riffs, catchy hooks with a in your face punk attitude Den Of Germs deliver the goods while at the same time never taking themselves too seriously. Thrash Punk, Death Rock, Punk Metal whatever you want to call it one thing everyone can agree on that it’s heavy as fuck.
