Stumasta DSM

Established in 2006, Deep Soul Music is the brainchild of Stumasta &

Subverse, two stalwarts of the drum & bass scene who had spent a

number of years helping to run the legendary Donovan ‘Badboy’ Smith’s

Sensor Records.



Originally set up to push the more soulful side of d&b from new and

undiscovered producers, the first few releases came from then unknowns

such as Spectrasoul, Zyon Base & Do the Math, although they would not

remain unknown for long. The commitment to pushing new talent plays an

important part in the label’s ethos and the fact that DSM was one of

the first to recognise the undoubted skills of Lynx is testament to

this.



The artwork for each release also plays an important part in what DSM

is all about. With a nod to the design of the 60’s and 70’s, it

reflects and references the ever-changing world we live in and how

things are constantly evolving and improving on what has been before.

Alongside the quality music, it means that DSM provides a complete

package for the discerning collector in a market swamped with dull and

generic clones.



2008 saw the release of the labels first album, ‘Future Without Past’.

Featuring a broad spectrum of styles from new and established

producers alike such as Data, Eveson, Naibu and local talent Ben-E, it

was a resounding commercial and critical success. It also marked the

beginning of a new chapter DSM with a focus on a new musical

direction, helping to pioneer the more minimal and experimental sound

that has become so prevalent in D&B today.



The quality continued in 2009 with tracks from Eveson, Spectrasoul and

the huge Last Gasp b/w Fiasco from new comers Triad finding their way

in to a host of A-list dj’s boxes. It shows no sign of slowing either

with tracks from S.P.Y, Mosus, HLZ and Anile all confirmed, 2010 looks

like the year when everyone will be going deep.
