Widely regarded as one of the most influential UK MC's to surface from the grime scene, your favourite MC's favourite MC…D Double E!
Hailing from Forest Gate, East London with an enthusiasm for Jungle DJ'ing in his early teens; would eventually lead a young Darren Dixon to take hold of the mic and establish himself as one of the hottest properties on the grime circuit.
As Double reached his late teens he had already established himself as a prominent figure on pirate radio and the spearhead of grime collective ‘187’.
By the time he’d reached his early 20s, he was invited by former school friends to join the infamous N.A.S.T.Y. Crew who would instantly barge their way to the forefront of the scene during the meteoric rise of grime music in the early 00's.
Double’s charismatic flows, jaw dropping wordplay and piercing delivery, along with his signature “Echo”, earnt himself a reputation as one of the most energetic and popular rave MCs in the scene.
2004 saw collaborations with The Streets, Dizzee Rascal, Shola Ama, Kano, and not forgetting his feature on Lethal Bizzle’s Club Smash “Pow”, shooting straight in at number 11 in the UK charts.
In 2005, Double’s time with NASTY came to an end and along with fellow former members Footsie, Monkstarr & DJ Tubby, formed the group Newham Generals who are best known for grime anthems “Prang Man”, “Frontline” & D Double E’s solo effort “Signal”.
Shortly after, the Generals signed to platinum selling and Brit award winner Dizzee Rascal’s label, Dirtee Stank Recordings supporting Dizzee all over the world, working on their debut album aptly titled “Generally Speaking”, and hosting their weekly set on Rinse FM.
Midway through making the album, third member Monkstarr parted ways with the group & Double and Footsie put the finishing touches to the album which was released nationwide in April 2009.
Following on shortly from the critical acclaim of the Generals debut album, came the Breakage produced collaboration and Dubstep smash “Hard”, in which Double didn’t fail to impress.
With an EP and follow up album in the pipeline for the group, a solo effort from Double was well under way and the warm up single “Street Fighter Riddim” is now set for release at the end of July.
D Double E’s debut EP “Bluku! Bluku!” is scheduled for an autumn release on Dirtee Stank Recordings.
