Since Davie Lawson’s debut album “Konichiwa?” came out in the summer of 2007 this talented songwriter has enjoyed a growing reputation.
Born in Wales Davie now lives in the UK again after periods in Amsterdam and Dublin. He tours regularly.
2010 Was a busy year for Davie. As well as releasing his second album ‘Tree Tumble Wake Mother’ he was back in the studio recording its follow up, ‘Rags’. With a line up including piano, violin and accordion it ushers in a more complex sound to Davie’s recordings.
‘Tree Tumble Wake Mother’ gathered fantastic reviews. Recorded live to tape in an attic studio in Glasgow and mixed in the Netherlands, it features a line up of pianos, organs, bass, drums and guitars.
‘One of the finest folk efforts I have heard this year’ Folkworld.de 2010
“Konichiwa?” is direct yet unforced, and has something quintessentially British about it. Some people likened it to hearing a young John Cale or a lost cousin of Nick Drake. Dan Tuffy, who produced the album, says “When he first came out to the studio I was astonished at the sheer volume of his paper work. Piles of lyrics, musings and short stories stacked thicker than a London phone book. The kids not a singer, I thought, he’s a writer. For he’d recklessly sort through reams and reams of the stuff before saying “Ah, this ones not bad, let’s have a go getting this down”"
“Fans of Nick Drake or Bright Eyes really need to check this out” Plato Mania
“Echoes of a young Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Tim Buckley” OOR
“Keep listening and you will discover the polite beauty of Lawson’s songs” Het Parool
