SHORT BUT VERY SWEET INDEED
Guitarist/singer Dave Rude had a career of his own prior to being discovered by Tesla on MySpace to replace Tommy Skeoch three years ago. Completed by bassist Marco Guzman and drummer Josh Schmidt, this three-piece offers a modern-sounding style of hard rock that’s not only distinctly hummable but offers indie crossover potential. Rude has described the DRB’s style as “Shinedown drinking with Buckcherry at a Kings Of Leon after-show party”, and he’s not far off the mark.
Instead of trying to prove his credentials as a guitarist, 31-year-old Rude goes with the good-time flow, marrying power-chords with choruses that make the listener want to punch the air. Honorary mentions go to Fallin’ Down, Come Right In and the extremely memorable ballad Dumb.
Slightly annoyingly, though, Carry Me Home’s seven songs last for a mere 25 minutes. A far more satisfying full-length debut would also add the half-dozen more that featured on a self-titled mini-album back in ’07.

SELF-TITLED EP 2007
Now firmly ensconced as a member of Tesla, guitarist/singer Dave Rude's three-piece group has been a fixture of the San Franciscan circuit for three years. Sturdy, retro-themed riffs underpin Rude's accomplished singing and an intuitive infusion of melody is what sells 'Burnin' Bright' and Hail To The Chief' so emphatically. 7 out of 10 stars.

It Ain't Retro, Its Just ROCK!!
A VERY strong debut by the Dave Rude Band. The emphasis being on the word BAND. All too often a band named for it's leader or one fronted by a hot shot guitarist ends up being a 'look at me! look at me!' affair or worst yet an excuse to see how many solos can be crammed into each song. NOT the case with this six song EP. The most impressive thing about this disc are the songs themselves. No overblown, exhausting to listen to 8 minute shread-fests here. Instead you have well crafted SONGS. As performed by a real live band. Not taking away whatsoever from Rude's guitar on the EP - these are guitar dominated tunes after all - but the focus is on the hooks and the melodies. As for the guitar, the tone is what stands out to me. Dave's got it to spare! It goes without saying that the production is top notch as is the artwork.
The overall sound of the Dave Rude Band is one that is immediately familiar. Not retro! This isn't a calculated attempt to rip-off the past but instead a result of mixing up a big ol' vat of classic rock influences and adding a modern twist. If you need an old school comparison think Cheap Trick on steroids.
Stand out tracks include 'Heavy As A Raindrop', 'Crooked Bullseye' and 'Eighteen Eyes'.

Dave Rude Band's unabashed, uncompromising, highly melodic hard rock sound is both unique and instantly recognizable--a modern take on the classic rock influences the band grew up on. In 2005 Dave Rude decided to start a solo project as a singer/guitarist, but as soon as he hooked up with bassist Marco Guzman and drummer Josh Schmidt, things gelled so well that it quickly solidified into a permanent band.
Some may recognize lead singer/guitarist, Dave Rude, as multi-platinum rock band Tesla's newest guitar hero. When they randomly came across the Dave Rude Band MYSPACE page, they were so impressed they offered him the job in early '06 and he is still a member today. Bassist, Marco Guzman, moved to the US from Peru to pursue a career in rock'n'roll and brings a distinctly Latin groove to his fuzzed-out, Aerosmith-cum-Rage Against The Machine-style basslines. And drummer Josh Schmidt started out touring and recording in punk bands in the SF Bay Area before branching out into jazz and Latin rhythms around the time he joined DRB--always giving the band a unique, pounding, yet danceable groove. Together the power trio create a powerful sound both onstage and on record that is truly their own.
"Carry Me Home" is the band's brand new CD and its sound has been described as Shinedown doing shots with Buckcherry at a Kings Of Leon afterparty. Track 1, "Fallin' Down", is a fast-paced rocker with a super melodic chorus harmony that is also an explosive opening to the band's live shows--it is also nominated for best Hard Rock/Metal Song @ the 9th Annual Independent Music Awards. Track 2, "Carry Me Home", is where the KOL influence comes out with a sparse, bass driven verse and lush chorus with a heartfelt vocal hook that won't leave your head from the minute you first hear it. DRB puts their musical diversity in the spotlight with their seamless transition into Track 4, "Dumb", --a huge sounding, yet vulnerable modern power ballad with major mass appeal. The CD started out as a live-in-the-studio demo but had such a great vibe that they decided to add a few overdubs, give it a good mix, and release it. One listen and you'll be glad they did.
