DARRELL MCCALL began his musical career in a small town in Southern Ohio, playing for dances, county fairs, and talent contests, and working for the local radio station at the tender age of 15, as a weekend disc jockey. It was here he began to listen to all the styles of Country music and began playing favorites, literally.

By the age of 17, DARRELL hosted his own radio program every Saturday morning, which put him in touch with most of the local talent, and it was here he met another local boy, Donny Young, who later changed his name to Johnny Paycheck. Donny encouraged DARRELL to come with him to Nashville, where posing as a brother duo, the ‘Young Brothers’, they signed with Tree Publishing Company and landed most of the harmony gigs on the major recording sessions in Nashville. This led DARRELL to also pursue his love for songwriting and bass playing. He began playing bass and fronting the shows for such stellar acts as Faron Young, Ray Price, and Carl Smith. In the early ‘70’s, . . .while DARRELL was working with Hank Williams Jr., he wrote Hank’s first number one hit, ‘Eleven Roses’. This was the break he was looking for, and since the Texas market always welcomed DARRELL with open arms, he packed up his family and moved to San Antonio, where he formed the band, ‘The Tennessee Volunteers’. DARRELL was the first male artist to record a duet with Willie Nelson, on the 1977 top 40 hit, ‘Lily Dale’, which earned them Record World’s ‘NEW DUO OF THE YEAR’ award on Columbia Records. By the early ‘80’s, Ronnie Milsap produced DARRELL on RCA Records with a top 40 hit, ‘Long Line of Empties’, and he also guested with George Strait’s Ace in the Hole Band, on their band album. In the 90's, DARRELL released three CD’s for the independent label, ARTAP, and the Bear Family of Germany released his long-awaited box set, ‘DARRELL MCCALL.THE REAL MCCALL’. In 1997, the Terry Awards honored DARRELL with its prestigious ‘LIVING LEGEND’ award in Fort Worth, Texas and in late 1998; DARRELL was inducted into the TEXAS COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME in Austin, Texas. And, as the circle is made complete, the legendary Johnny Paycheck made his first guest appearance on DARRELL’S “Pictures Can’t Talk Back”. Darrell released his new CD in late 2004 intitled "Old Memories and Wine" with Heart of Texas records. He is finally achieving his long time desire of making it a family affair. His daughter Guyanne wrote the title track "Old Memories and Wine". His son Cody sings harmony vocals on four of the twelve song CD. His wife Mona sings two songs, "The Deepening Snow" and the "French Song" and she also wrote the song " May Time My Lady". In late 2006 " The Essential Darrell McCall " was released. It features many of his fans favorite songs and some that have been hard to find until now. "Down the Road To Daddys Dreams", "Lily Dale", "Eleven Roses", and It Took Us All Night Long to Say Goodbye" are just to name a few.

Because a very large percentage of DARRELL’S fans are musicians, one of Nashville’s music executives described DARRELL as a ‘picker’s picker’! , and to quote a few other close friends:

“DARRELL MCCALL has always been one of my favorite Country singers.”

Ralph Emery

“DARRELL is part of a rare breed.truly a pure Country singer.”

Connie Smith

“When it comes to singing Country music, we could all take a lesson from

DARRELL MCCALL!”

Waylon Jennings.
