Biography:

In 2010 Oris Jay’s influence has never been more significant…

This is the boy that built the blueprint for 21st Century dubstep one of the original pioneers whose dark sound revolutionised the UK Garage and Breaks scenes this is the boy who wrote the book

Oris also produces as Darqwan, DQ1 and RS4 He’s based in Sheffield, Steel City, home of his seminal label Texture, on which Benga & Walsh, Loefah and Geeneus have all released.

Oris began playing out at the tender age of 16 and fast cultivated a reputation as a unique and totally incendiary live DJ Japan, Australia, Ukraine, and the US have all tasted Oris’s vital melt of Dubstep, Grime, Garage, Hardcore, Jungle and Drum & Bass.

So let’s rewind a little Oris first made an impact on the Jungle scene in the early 90s, tearing up the North with DJ Pioneer and MC’s E-Man and Hero as The Reflex Crew.

As the fresh sound of UK Garage hit London, so did Oris He went home to Sheffield buzzing about the beats he’d heard on pirate radio, and in clubs and record shops in London, and made it his mission to pioneer UK Garage in the North.

In production terms Oris’s sound has been unique from the outset, influenced by dark, edgy D&B and the vibe of 2-Step and UK Garage His underground anthem ‘Biggin Up The Massive’ featuring MC Rankin, is an early example of his fire Legendary Garage DJ EZ began battering it, and Oris broke London, with the rest of the planet fast to fall.

Tunes like ‘Said The Spider’ and ‘Pipe Dreams’ cemented his reputation as a dark Garage master, and the creator of a sound that went on to form and inform early Dubstep.

There are lovers of Oris’s beats everywhere Mary Anne Hobbs and Rob Da Bank from BBC Radio 1 Dubstep DJs, Skream, Benga, Loefah, Caspa, Distance and Pinch… broken beat kings like Dego (4 Hero), Charlie Dark (Attica Blues) and Bugz in the Attic as well as UK Garage heroes, MJ Cole, Geeneus and Heartless Crew.

Oris had a top 40 hit with his tune ‘Trippin’ which was covered by Cahill in 2009 and had a second-coming in the UK charts He’s collaborated with everyone from Toddla T, Ms Dynamite to Rodney P released on seminal labels Polydor, Tectonic, Planet Mu, EMI, Bingo and Hospital featured on Herve and Toddla T compilations and in 2010 he continues to innovate and inform at the highest level of cutting edge electronic music

He’s a rare breed inspite of all his global success, a boy whose heart remains underground forever

As Oris himself would say “everybody likes a little bit of darkness”
