Dark Martyr

Built upon the foundations of self-sacrifice in the death throes of autumn in 1997, Dark Martyr is the vehicle for a romantically self-destructive ideology. Originally conceived by bassist/vocalist Dean Goethsimanis, the concept of Dark Martyr was set in stone long before he decided to set music to it. Dark Martyr can be described as the collective passion of love, war and woe, with influences stretching from the likes of Arcturus, Arch Enemy, In Flames, Dissection, At The Gates, Carcass and Emperor to Ministry, KMFDM and London After Midnight. They have opened for such noteworthy acts as Silent Force, D.C. Cooper, Bella Morte, Malevolent Creation and Mortician.



After a long and chaotic existence with numerous line-up changes, and a long and cathartic hiatus, Dark Martyr is now working on material for a new album that will take their artistic vision to a new level of musical and technical competence. As of April 2006, the Dark Martyr lineup consists of Dean Goethsimanis, and brothers Ben and Tim Nihil on guitars. Drummer Derek Riot joined in January of 2007 to contribute his brand of concussive percussion to make Dark Martyr's music even more driving and forceful. During the past few months, the group has been more cohesive and productive than perhaps ever before. Look for a new EP due out in the next couple of months, as well as summer show dates as early as June.
