For nine years and across four states, Redlands has been a concept in the head of Daniel Thrall. It began as a one-man project in Athens, Georgia, and it migrated to Seattle, WA, where Daniel collaborated with many local musicians in the studio for the recording of "The Water's Rising." Ultimately, the gloom of Seattle pushed Daniel to California and then to Tucson, AZ, where, in late 2004, he worked to pull together talent that would translate the recorded sound from Seattle to a live setting in Tucson. The result is Redlands, comprised of Daniel Thrall, who sings and plays guitar; Nick Prevenas, who plays bass; Jeff Delavergne; who plays the drums; and Justin Irwin, who plays the electric guitar.

Redlands is rooted in the quiet melodies of foregone artists like Elliott Smith and Nick Drake, but there is hopefulness in Redlands' songs. Over layers of picked guitars, Redlands tells of broken down people searching for and sometimes finding answers, of the comfort and pain of solitude.

Redlands' debut full length, "The Water's Rising," is a quiet experience that creeps up on the listener and shakes his core. It is a mixture of faint harmonies, beautiful melodies, meticulous production, and occasional bursts of rock and roll.

"Are you breathing?" Redlands, sophomore effort, takes the hints of rock and roll from "The Water's Rising" and puts them front and center. The characters in "Are you breathing?" are as lost as ever, but this time around the mood is entirely different.
