Damon Shulman is part of a long musical tradition. His father and uncles were the founding members of sixties beat band Simon Dupree & the Big Sound and later progressive rock pioneers Gentle Giant. His grandfather was also a musician playing jazz in the various dance halls of England and Scotland.

Damon started playing in bands at a very early age. He was eleven years old when he played bass in punk band Chaos. Chaos was a reasonably successful band and played regularly at the many music venues situated in London and the southern area of England. Chaos also received recgonition in the national press which largely focused on Damon's precocious talent and tender years.
History repeated itself when Damon formed Bande a Part with school friends and brother Calvin. Dad Phil Shulman eventually joined the band which created some curiosity from the press again but the band was a short lived project. Damon and his friends were still at school, Calvin and Phil had various other commitments so the band was destined to meet an early demise much to the disappointment of a large local following.
In 1987 Damon formed The Working Stiffs. The Stiffs gigged inexorably across the country and gained a large following of loyal fans.
In 1993, Damon formed Different Trains, though they breifly used the name The D.Lewis Band for the release of the single 'Dust in the wind'. This attracted quite a bit of attention. Two live BBC radio sessions proved successful and was the catalyst to the band gigging expansively.
In 1994, Different Trains released the album 'On the right track'.The album was released on the GEP label. The album was well received and led to a busy period for Damon and Different Trains. Unfortunately, this led to burn out and the band grew tired of being in each others company. Damon as the only songwriter and band leader also grew tired of being the focal point. After a couple of gigs in Germany supporting IQ Damon decided he'd had enough and allowed the band to fizzle out after various squabbles and disagreements amongst the band members and management. Damon dropped out of music altogether turning his attentions entirely to his wife and children.
In 2003 Damon returned to recording music and released the CD 'In Pieces'. The album included performances from his father Phil and associates from IQ, John Jowitt and Paul Cook. The album was a compilation of the last of Damon's material recorded with Different Trains, the sessions with John Jowitt and Paul Cook and a piece from 'Then', an orchestral composition written to prose by Phil Shulman. 'In Pieces' was not factory pressed in volume so copies are hard to find. But the album raised awareness and curiosity amongst certain music fans and encouraged Damon in to moving forward with his music projects.
In 2005 Damon was invited to release his next album through Alucard Publishing. Consequently, in 2006 Damon released 'A Brief Moment of Panic'.The album was recorded and produced in Damon's home studio 'Room 15'. A third solo album 'Vultures and Sheep' was subsequently released in 2008.
A fourth solo album was released in 2010 entitled 'Yard Time'
Damon continues to write and record and now plays solely his band The Bending Space.
