2011 finds Damon Johnson roaring into another year with more inspiration, new songs, big plans. Never one to have a shortage of musical endeavors on his plate. Johnson continues to add to his list of accomplishments that many musicians would sell their souls to attain. Damon reveals, "Last year brought lots of fulfillment artistically, but it was a challenging year personally. The good news about that is it's fuel for new songs. I've got lots to say"
Johnson first came on the national music scene as the frontman, guitarist and principal songwriter for Brother Cane. The band released three albums on Virgin Records (the self titled debut which sold 250,000 copies, "Seeds," and "Wishpool") that would yield three 1 singles on rock radio ("Got No Shame," "And Fools Shine On," and "I Lie in the Bed I Make"). Brother Cane toured extensively as a headliner and also as a supporting act on tours by Van Halen, Aerosmith, Robert Plant, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. After what Virgin Records considered an unsatisfactory yield in record sales, the band was released from their contract, and amicably disbanded in 1999.
Never one to sit still, Johnson continued to hone his songwriting chops, ultimately having his songs recorded by a wide array of artists: from Stevie Nicks to Carlos Santana, to Skid Row, Sammy Hagar, and Queensryche. He has also played guitar on recordings by Faith Hill, John Waite, Hagar, Ted Nugent, and even the legendary Temptations.
And yet the call of the stage has always been a constant howl in Johnson's ear. His projects include Slave To The System (featuring Queensryche drummer, Scott Rockenfield), country rock vocal group, Whiskey Falls, and what will this year become his fifth full year as guitarist for rock legend and newest Hall of Fame inductee, Alice Cooper.
In 2010 Johnson issued his 2nd solo acoustic album, "Release". He plans to tour on his own in the first part of this year in support of that effort, and a new rock album is in the works.
