Dakar , aka Christian Kreuz, was born with a guitar in one hand and a microphone in the other. After playing in bands ranging from punk to rock to hip hop, he became infected with early Detroit Techno and Chicago House. He begins his DJ career in 1992 and is soon a resident , along with DJ HELL in Munich's legendary ULTRASCHALL. His residency lasts for 8 years, and in the meantime he starts the group DAKAR & GRINSER in 1995.
D&G exploded the scene with their 1996 debut ep "Shot Down In Reno" released on DISKO B. Recorded with borrowed equipment in the smoky bedroom in some after hours," Shot down in Reno" (a tribute to Johnny Cash) receives rave reviews and ushers in a new era for electronic music. The music is sexy, dirty , and explosive: electronic + rockn roll.
Their big break comes in 1999 with the release of their album "Are You Really Satisfied Now?" Hailed by NME and other music press as outstanding and groundbreaking, the album receives rave reviews from critics and fans alike. The singles "Take Me Naked" (single of the week NME) and the STOOGES cover " I Wanna Be Your Dog" (later on 2many djs famous "radio soulwax "compilation) remains a classic . The album also includes the number "Le Cha" with Miss Kittin.
After signing with Virgin in 2000, "Stay With Me" the remix by Dakar and TOBI NEUMANN enters charts in italy. D&G tours like crazy including shows on MTV and performances on the famous italian tv show "FESTIVALBAR" . At the peak of their success, D&G split up in 2002.
In 2003, Motor/Universal signs Dakar, and as Christian Kreuz he releases his solo album "Diktatur Des Kapitals" . This radical album, sung in German, includes the singles "Koks & Prada", "Lebenslänglich Disco" and "Wir Sind Bereit" with its awardwinning video The album is a mix of dub, punk, electro and house and a major break from the "electroclash" scene that was born out of D&G. He takes a break with electronic clubs, gets back to the roots and plays live concerts with his band.
In 2004 he starts a collaboration with swiss producer ROBI INSINA aka HEADMAN. The Single "Birth School Work Death" released on TREVOR JACKSONs Label OUTPUT becomes a hit in clubs all over the world.
After moving to Berlin, he releases the second full length D&G album "TRIUMPH OF FLESH" (Disko B) in 2005. The album is well received and D&G go back on extended tour playing in some of the most exciting hotspots around the globe.
In 2006 DAKAR comes up with his own label SHOTGUN RECORDINGS and releases 4 brilliant Tech House Maxis in limited Edition which are strongly influenced by early 90íes Detroit Techno. One of many passions blazing in the heart of Mr. Dakar.
In 2008 Dakar graps his mic again and records "IVE GOT THAT FEELING" which gets released on Berlins First Class Label GET PHYSICAL. This ode dedicataded to "the most beautiful feeling in the world" becomes one of the Major Dance Floor Anthems of the year and proves that a love song is able to touch ones heart without sounding cheesy. 2 further releases on GET PHYSICAL follow, including "DUBAI", a collaboration with greek producer Jannis Siopis.
In 2009 Dakar contributes his skills as songwriter and producer to the debut album of the new Parisian Electronic Collective ACID WASHED, signed by AIRS French electronica imprint RECORD MAKERS. The longplayer is going to hit the streets in october 2009.
