Dak Alley is an enthusiastic, outgoing, life has no limits, kind of man! Growing up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in a musical family (The Botermans) who were inducted into the South Dakota Country Music Hall of Fame, Dak carried on his musical ambition by moving to Nashville at an early age to follow his passion of writing!
As a successful songwriter, Dak has had songs recorded by dozens of artists, including such acts as Alabama, Dennis Locorriere (Dr. Hook), Charlie Louvin (The Grand Ole Opry), Chris Gage (Red Willow Band), Hank Williams’ Junior’s Bama Band, Beeb Birtles (The Little River Band), Bob Welch (Fleetwood Mac), Charlie Walker (The Grand Ole Opry), and many more. Dak has had the privilege of co-writing with some of the best songwriters ever to pick up a pen, and in the process, fortunate enough to learn the craft from such greats as Wayne Carson (Always On My Mind, The Letter), Jimmy Bowen, Chuck Howard, Bob Merrill (Funny Girl),(How Much is that Doggy in the Window) The first song Dak ever sang with his Grandparents band.(People Who Need People) Dennis Morgan (Smokey Mountain Rain, Sleeping Single in a Double Bed) who convinced Dak to move to Nashville to write, Buddy Killen (Tree Music) who was the first man to pay Dak to write” songs, and Dak co-wrote the last song Buddy worked on, Whitey Shaffer (All My Exes Live In Texas, That’s the Way Love Goes), Lefty Frizzell (“yes the Lefty Frizzell), Richard Fagan, Kathy Louvin, Cathy Majeski, Melba Montgomery,Tony Arata, John Pap McCollum, and one of his all time favorites, Ray Kennedy, with whom he co-wrote “Sunday Drive” for Alabama, and so many more that there is not enough room to put them on this page.
Dak has always loved telling stories and that’s why he took up the craft of songwriting - which in turn lead to writing books. He quickly learned he could spend more than three minutes per story to convey his ideas as he had done in his songwriting career in Nashville, and before long he was getting a lot of attention from Nashville movie companies interested in filming his script-books, and realized that he definitely had something there.
As the co-owner of La’Dak Music & Video Production Company, Dak has produced and directed a number of successful music videos. As members of the Tennessee Film Commission, he has been involved with numerous major motion pictures to include The Green Mile with Tom Hanks.
Dak currently resides in Tennessee with his wife, LA. He and his wife continue to write music and stories together while sharing their passion of life with their family of felines and one charismatic canine. As owners of their own Production Company, they stay busy with new projects and challenges Their enthusiasm for travel and cruising to exotic destinations keeps them motivated and inspired. Dak finds time to relax by collecting and restoring vintage vehicles.
Operation Blue Suede”, the first in the series “The Psychic Writer”, is being presented to the world. Now, along with Dak’s music, we will get to see how the rest of the story unfolds.
