Cape Verde Connection

Crioulo Rasta from Brava is what these guys are holdin down.

Danny Baptista and Edio Goncalves , both Cape Verdeans who grew up around music.Growing up in Taunton and Pawtucket in heavy CV communities CV music was always thereTheir family all comes from the Island of Brava(Djabraba).The families immigrated to the states in early and mid 70's to New England.Danny was born in Taunton and Edio immigrated to Pawtucket at an young age.They grew up around all the CV bands of the time since there was always a family member in them.Growing up in America with a heavy CV culture and the influence of reggae and other dance music they developed an electro future sound of CV music.They started in Danny's apartment in Central Falls,Rhode Island back in 1997. His apt at the time was inside the Bar in an old VFW hall on Broad st. Edio would grab his keyboard daily and pedal his 60's old skool bicycle while holding his keyboard with one hand ,dodging traffic under the .Inside the loft they had guitars, drums, samplers and turntables.This became the CV camp. Imagine sessions on CV culture and hazy jam sessions ending with some Katchupa.In 1999 Danny moved to Brooklyn NYC and Edio soon jumped out there and set up shop and continued to play out there.There they met a very talented friend named Josh Werner.Intrigued with these 2 Crioulos and their cultural identities Josh started producing songs with them and started a group with them called ZIONIX.They continued with the electronic vibe for a while and then assembled a backing band and played shows that way.Edio has since moved back to Pawtucket RI and continues to produce from there while playing drums for a ska band named Psycats.Danny is in Brooklyn NYC also still working on music with Edio and Danny also sings and plays guitar for "The Cool and Deadly".Danny and Edio are preparing to release a cd by the winter.Myspace Backgrounds
