Cut Throat Logic

Finally there is something different, something to break the monotony. Bringing new life and fresh air into the game is Cut Throat Logic. From Phoenix, Arizona, Cut Throat Logic’s group encompasses much style and influence from all ranges of hip hop. They present the darker, gritty realities of life, but with an almost optimistic, survivalist-minded slant. They performed at local talent shows, clubs, and house parties, and often battled in true hip-hop MC tradition.

From these underground displays of skill, the group soon started to build a dedicated following. The buzz they were creating eventually reached past the local music fans and to the ears of local promoters and other local industry people. Their first performance as "Cut Throat Logic" was an opening slot for Reakwon of the Wu-Tang Clan. More national shows would soon follow, but not before tragedy would strike.

On February 28th, 2000 Kamau, passed away at the age of 19. One-third of Cut Throat Logic was suddenly eliminated from what they had been trying to build, and who they were becoming as a group. Kamau's death almost marked the death of the group, but instead they were able to create something positive out of something so devastating. Cut Throat managed to get one of their demos into the hands of Max Cavalera, front man to the international rock group Soulfly. Cavalera, dug their music so much; he asked them to make an appearance on the next Soulfly record. The song "In Memory Of." a combined tribute to Kamau and Max's late step-son Dana, would soon be written. This also provided the group the opportunity to work with big name producer Toby Wright, and gave Deonte the opportunity to provide additional programming on several other songs, including a track featuring Sean Lennon (son of John Lennon). With the release of the Soulfly song, Cut Throat Logic were invited to join Soulfly on stage for dates throughout the west coast, including several dates on the summer's Ozzfest tour and Cypress Hills smoke fest. "In Memory Of." was performed live in front of thousands of people in each city with an overwhelmingly positive response.

Cut Throat have since opened shows for the likes of the Wu-tang Clan, Paul Wall, Jurassic-5, Talib Kweli, Common. When it comes to experience and hardwork that’s nothing new to them. CTL has built a solid relationships with Radio, TV, and Newspaper publications receiving numerous interviews and write ups. In 2005 Cut Throat Logic also won Best of the Year awards with Arizona Republic and Phoenix Newtimes 2 years in straight. With all this support CTL headlines their own local shows drawing a packed house every time selling out the Mason Jar consistently for 2 years; Michael Manfredi, who owns the Mason Jar, calls "Cut Throat as the only local act in town that can sell out his club."; and CTL also was the first act to ever sell out the old Brickhouse which holds over 700 people.

"We have motivation and passion in our music," says Deonte "Plague" Perry, Cut Throat's chief beatmaker and producer. "We're trying to be original, and they appreciate that. They recognize that."

From Phoenix, Arizona, Cut Throat Logic encompasses much style and influence from all ranges of hip hop, from the east coast to the west coast, and everything in between.

Cut Throat Logic represents the future of hip-hop music and culture. What they are doing musically, emotionally, and spiritually is where hip-hop desperately needs to be. They have the charisma for mainstream success, while at the same time bringing a level of philosophical sensibility and streetwise survivalism to maintain their respect in the underground.
