Cuco Sanchez

Refugio Sánchez, uno de los mejores cantautores que ha dado México, nació en Altamira, Tamaulipas el 3 de mayo de 1921. En 1937 comenzó su carrera, llegándole el éxito en 1939 con su tema Mi chata. De las más de 200 canciones que compuso, varias fueron para peliculas mexicanas. También incursionó en la actuación participando en peliculas tales como La cucaracha al lado de María Felix y Pedro Armendariz. Murió a la edad de 79 años, el 6 de octubre del 2000.

Noted for an extensive career spanning 66 years and 200 songs (translated into 27 languages), Mexican folk singer, composer, and actor Jose del Refugio "Cuco" Sanchez may be gone, but his mark on the entertainment industry will not soon be forgotten. Born in the Mexican town of Altamira, Sanchez recorded his first song at the tender age of 13, and six years later, was signed by Mexico's largest media company. Spawning numerous hits, and composing music for several movies in which he also acted, Sanchez remained a popular actor of film and television, as well as a hit songwriter. On October 5, 2000, Cuco Sanchez died of liver failure at a Mexico City hospital. He was 79.
