The story begins in Derry (Londonderry) - a city of great character and one of Ireland & U.K.’s best music scenes. It was here where writer and producer Paul Duffy first caught the DJ bug. An obsessive crate digger: Duffy’s time was spent between Art class and the local record shop: Cool Discs. The local record store owner gave him the opportunity to share the stage with some of the worlds finest DJ’s and producers at the tender age of 16. From 1997 to ‘07 Duffy went on to participate in a healthy eclectic music scene in the city - enticing global talent and other promoters to join in with the lead of record shop owner Lee Mason. During this Ten year period he was fortunate enough to support the likes of Ian Brown, Groove Armada, Mr Scruff, DJ Andy Smith, Afrika Bambaataa & RJD2 to name a few. Derry venues included The Nerve Centre, The Lava Lounge (Carrig Bar), The Gasyard, Sandinos, The Strand Bar, The Dugloe & Celtronic Festival to name a few. Further afield gigs included the Art College Belfast, Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast Festival, Imagine Belfast, The Brunswick. In recent years DJ slots in Andy Smith's Document Live Sessions Cargo (London) and The Cuban (Canterbury) kept the dance-floor packed.
A steely determination and a student overdraft were enough to place Duffy in the driving seat production wise. Experiments began at home with basic equipment and the help of a few friends. From years of recording local singers & musicians an archive was put together. This along with a selection of choice samples have helped shape the sound of all his output to date. After a move to London between challenging day-jobs more writing and recording sessions took place. Extra collaborators were called into action. It is at this stage the project has begun to take shape and the rewards are what can be heard here. So far positive feedback has come from a selection of U.K. & worldwide producers and MC's No deal yet - hold the phone - the industry is not what it used to be! The Sky High Sound System now requires intervention to get the music out there both DJing & with live sets in the pipeline. There’s plenty of material already completed and much more in production. So if you are into soulful electronica, epic hip hop instrumentals, or dance-floor smashing electro you should enjoy this. You can expect more in the very near future.
