Convict Orange started playing together in May of 2003 at Earthquake studios in Watchung, New Jersey. Dan was playing bass again for the first time since Joystick broke up in 1999. Tom, formerly the drummer of the hugely successful cover band Route 66, picked up the guitar. Ian Kenworthy took the drummers seat. Somehow it workedMaybe because they were all neurotics. Maybe it was their attitude towards mainstream music. Convict Os sound is a high energy mix of old school punk with an original twist that is raw and no-nonsense. Song subjects range from political to humor, from sex to auto parts. Lyrics are about life as the band members experience it, honest and to the point. The band played their first show a couple of months later at Tomstock, an event Tom and Ian held at their house, the "195". Vision (Epitaph Records) headlined and over 500 people attended.

Shortly afterwards Convict Orange went to record a five song demo, Trial and Error, that was distributed at shows. Within weeks of this first show and release of the original demo, Convict Orange began playing on a regular basis, conquering clubs like The Continental (NYC) and The Brighton Bar, The Court Tavern, and many other popular venues. In October, 2004, Convict Orange went in to record their first full length, Do Not Pass Go, with the help of music industry guru Anthony Krizan, formerly of the platinum selling group The Spin Doctors.

In the last two years since Convict Orange formed, they have gone from a garage band to a serious force in the underground music scene. They are now focusing on recording a second record, as well as playing out steadily. Check this site often to see when Convict Orange is coming to your town.
