Profile Generator

Formed in Cornwall in the late-90s, Colonel Bastard are a guitar driven four piece with a mission to create twisted pop.

Comprising Martin White (Guitar/Bass/Vocals), Ben Garnett (Guitar/Bass/Vocals), Chris White (Drums/Vocals) and Russell Garnett (Lead Guitar), the band contains two songwriters with enough common ground to define the band, and enough difference to maintain a healthy diversity.

The band earned their chops playing 2-hour sets of original material in Cornish pubs, soon learning how to combine the pop hooks necessary to command the attention of drunkards with an experimental approach. A love of bands such as Talking Heads, Sparks, XTC, The Boo Radleys, The Beach Boys, Blur and Supergrass has inspired a desire to make arty, surreal, subtle music that refuses to sacrifice a good melody at the altar of overindulgence.

Having relocated to Cambridge in 2004, the band are a regular fixture in local venues, alternating between support slots with the likes of Bloc Party and Architecture in Helsinki, and self-promoted gigs with their favourite local acts. The September 2005 release of debut album Halcyon Days consolidates the bands’ position as skilled purveyors of nagging pop excellence, whilst a large quantity of stockpiled material will shortly culminate in a brand new EP.

Colonel Bastard are a band to make you watch Top of the Pops with the subtitles on, covering the tedium of everyday life with a caustic wit. Regaling audiences with tales of newsreaders, tea, pornography and the death of small insects, the band possess a lyrical approach as eccentric as the military leader who inspired their name.
