CODA is a four-piece female fronted alternative rock outfit from Northern Ireland which included Julianne Shawe (vocals & guitar), Adam Shirlow (guitar & vocals), Gareth Scott (bass) and Matt Crothers (drums). We existed between 2004 and 2008 in which we gigged and recorded extensively carving out our alternative brand of urgent, driving rock and playing a load of explosive live shows.

White EP (2005) - 1. Not Enough 2. The Reason 3. Safety Automatic

RED EP (2006) - 1. End Of The Line 2. Not Enough

We were lucky enough to support alt-rock heroes Sleater Kinney, Sons and Daughters, You Say Party! We Say Die! and No Age along with gigs along side local heroes LaFaro, MojoFury, Fighting With Wire, Dangerfields, Stand Up Guy and Fight Like Apes.

Some Nice words that people had to say about us are below!

“a pummelling flurry of rhythms overlaid with razor-edged guitar and confrontational male/female vocals”

- Francis Jones / Culture Northern Ireland

“Blistering guitar licks, urgent, attention grabbing vocals and strong melodies”

- Patric Baird / The Belfast Telegraph

“Ms Shawe’s vocals and stage presence bare comparison with Brody Dalle and PJ Harvey. Musically, it's hit after hit of grungy alternative melodic rock-punk-pop, with highlights all over the place”

- William Johnston / BBC Ulster - Across the line

“Burn the Wire may only be three tracks long but those nine minutes of breathless guitar, bass and drum wrangling allow CODA to make their mark effectively”

- David Roy / The Irish News

“A fusion of Queens of The Stone Age and Garbage being torn to shreds by Sleater-Kinney. Its full-on, fast-paced, sometimes monolithically heavy and always kept right on the edge by singer Julianne Shaw's viciously powerful vocals. It's easy to imagine songs like 'They're Closing In' and 'Cold Sweat Tears' played live and loud creating something of a mini riot in the moshpit”

- Music Mart Magazine

In May 2008 We decided to call it a day and move on to try different things. Currently Matt is drumming for Comply Or Die and Adam is pursuing his solo singer/songwriter material. Both Julianne and Gareth also have new projects in the pipeline which hope to see them return to performing live before the end of 2008.

Our last EP which we recorded at Blueroom Studios in February of 2008 is available to download for free above. Please download, listen, add to your playlist and distribute as you see fit. Thanks.
