As a kid in Corona Queens, Clynetell was breakdancing in the school yard of PS 19 (his latter rapping in his junior high years in OLS ) and on the block of 103rd Street. Not only was he breaking on any piece of cardboard he could find, he was tagging his name, BBR (Big Bee Rock), all over the neighborhood. One day Clynetell's father, Clyne Sr., noticed a graffiti tag on the neighbors house matched the graffiti in his sons black book. Clyne Sr. was furious and told his son he saw his tag on the mans property. He asked him, "If you were going to play an instrument what would it be?". After weeks of hard work and sacrifice Clynetell's father handed him a bass guitar and the next thing you know he was playing in his father's Reggae group, "The Cunninghams". Over the next several years Clynetell used his experience playing the bass and his musical knowledge from his Trinidadian Roots and mixed it with his love of hip hop. Instead of spinning on cardboard and tagging everywhere possible with his Pilot marker, he was writing Hip Hop lyrics.
Anyone who knows Clynetell will tell you his love in life is music and he tries to incorporate every style of music into his biggest love, Hip Hop. From his earliest memories he can recall hearing Bob Marley and the Wailers, Burning Spear, Jimmy Cliff, The Mighty Sparrow, Stevie Wonder, Nat King Cole, Quincy Jones and even Kenny Rogers. When Hip Hop took hold of him in the 80's he was listening to Run-DMC, The Fat Boys, Whoodini, U.T.F.O., and the list goes on. He remembers recording Chuck Chill Out and DJ Red Alert's radio shows every weekend. Clynetell would see rap artists like Kool G Rap, DJ Polo, Eric B, and the Original Cut Creator (and in later years JuJu from the Beatnuts and Linque, AKA Isis, from X-Clan) on TV one day and walking/ driving through the neighborhood the next. It made reaching success real in his eyes and helped him rise above the hard hitting problems the crack era brought into his community. "Crack was serious B," he stressed.
In the 90's a neighborhood DJ, DJ Kueb Gee, introduced his cousin, DJ Blitz (Kuzin Biff), to Clynetell and he began recording his songs on Biff's Tascam 4 track. "My first song was A Clyne Rhyme," he laughingly says. Clynetell continued to write constantly and practiced several months before meeting his partner Smooth Sha (Producer Sha Mega). They formed the group, Nice to the 3rd Power. After creating this team and working with several other groups over the next couple years they brought on two new members and formed the group Natural Mystics, later to be known as Gortechs Division (see Gortechs Division BIO below).
While Clynetell continues as a member of Gortechs Division, he is also completing solo work and is collaborating with several other artists and producers. His newest single, Let's Build, was produced by KS from "40 Below Entertainment". Clynetell continues to work to diversify his career and is open to working with additional artists and producers so definitely contact him if you are interested in collaborating on future projects. Gortechs Division, a four member Hip Hop group consisting of CLYNETELL, SHA MEGA, CHARMS, and BIG DREAM is here to impact the world with their versatile style. Originally from Corona, NY, Clynetell, Sha Mega and Charms convey the finesse of Queens, while Big Dream brings flair from his roots of Washington, DC. Clynetell, Sha Mega and Charms first impacted the Northeast US as the New York based underground Hip Hop group, NATURAL MYSTICS. The Natural Mystics performed from New York to Virginia and sold approximately three thousand units underground (not including sales overseas) on their independently created label, DVE Records, at the latter end of the mid-Nineties.
Gortechs Division entered the New York Hip-Hop scene in 1998 with unique and diverse music. Their pulsating sound is Real Hip Hop.street music, but at the same time, like their catch phrase states, "Spreads Love". Don't expect Gospel Rap.these guys are Concentrated Hip Hop (No Bubble gum rap). Sha Mega produces sounds ranging from heavy drum kicks with smooth instruments to heavy chops with light snares. From Street to club -- not just one sound. Clynetell (also co-producer), Charms and Big Dream write and perform vocals with flows and topics as different as their personalities, but they all come together on one track to make amazing music. Today they continue to write and produce music and are ready to take the Hip Hop world by storm .
