Clint Martinez Trio

Maybe it’s the unique blend of Clint Martinez’ acoustic guitar and his melodic lyrics. Maybe it’s the heavy influence of Jack Johnson and the Dave Matthews Band. Whatever it is, the Clint Martinez Trio has created a grass roots fanbase that travels from show to show.



Formed in 2005, the band has attracted crowds at scores of venues around the Kansas City area including Davey’s Uptown, Trouser Mouse, Tanner’s, and River Market Brewing Co.



Martinez began playing guitar a decade ago and got his start in underground clubs of Long Beach, Calif., where he played alongside national touring acts such as Rocco Deluca, Delta Nova and Frame of Mind. The influence of the West Coast surf scene is recognizable in Martinez’ songs and the harmonic blend of acoustic guitar, bass and drums provide a fresh escape from the tedium of common hip-hop and garage bands.

Martinez has performed in various cities including Denver, Salt Lake City and Nashville before moving to Kansas City and forming the trio.



Bassist Adam “Luke Marlboro” Mendenhall thought he wanted to be a lead guitar player until he picked up the bass. Those who listened to his initial riffs quickly realized his natural talent on the instrument. Mendenhall adds a soulful blend to the band and has co-written many of its original tunes.



Ryan Hill has played drums for 20 years dating back to his grade school days. Before joining the trio, he played in Stop Go Ethic and was an original member of Sevenfold Tomorrow, the latter which played with bands such as 311 and Incubus on the Warped Tour.



The Clint Martinez Trio recently released its first CD, The Wave, which features nine original songs. The band mixes those tracks with covers from popular artists like Sublime, DMB, 311 and Ben Harper and repeatedly draws audiences onto the dance floor. With more than 150 shows under its belt, the trio is looking to expand to bigger venues and swell its fanbase to the regional level. Judging by their local achievement, they should be successful.
