As a child, Clara Lofaro was a lover of oldies music and found inspiration from the Solid Gold Collection tapes her family collected from the local gas station and two records her parents owned, "Yellow Submarine" by the Beatles, and "Close to You" by the Carpenters. Developing an ear for harmonies, Clara took up singing in her local community church and later ventured into musical theater. While she enjoyed playing the mini-skirted, controversial role of Mary Magdalene in high school, she began to feel her calling was to become a solo artist. To learn more about the music business, Clara landed an internship at a recording studio in Toronto called No. 9 Sound where she began to explore the option of perfecting her craft at Berklee College of Music in Boston. There, she was thrown into a pool of musicians from all around the world. Any ego she may have had quickly crumbled. Music was real, transparent and became her every day. Originally planning to pursue music therapy, Clara realized the songwriter in her was unleashing and there was no limit to where this creative path would take her.
To this day, Clara will contest there isn't much glamour to her career but admittedly that's not what she's in it for. Clara's passion has always been about reaching people through music and finding a common ground between ever common barriers. Today Clara, (often named CLo and CL by her fans) finds herself in a place she didn't expect. She tours and has released 4 albums as an independent artist, one which she fully produced. She writes regularly for TV/film and signed artists with four songs placed this year alone. Her song, Just Smile will be featured on a Vanity Fair national commercial campaign this spring. Songs, "I Choose You" and "Rescue Me" are on promo for the popular reality TV show, "The Voice" and, "Can't Go On" is currently streaming on ABC. With various non-exclusive publishing deals, and a strong song catalogue, the placements keep flowing in.
Clara has truly found her own soulful voice and has been told again and again that her uniqueness is what makes her shine. Her current self-titled album was produced by Anthony Resta (Collective Soul, Shawn Mullins, Duran Duran), Robert Smith (Lady Gaga, U2, David Bowie, Billy Joel) and Harold Stephan.
Lofaro has performed alongside notable artists across the board including Stevie Nicks, Edwin McCain, Kimberly Locke, and Jeffrey Gaines. She was heard by her largest audience ever when she sang "When You Wish Upon a Star" for tens of millions of people in the Disney Super Bowl commercials featuring MVP players of the NFL teams.
She has received radio airplay across Canada, on New York's WLIR and college stations throughout the Northeast, while 106 VIC radio in Ithaca, NY, named Lofaro's tune "One True Thing" Song of the Year. Lofaro won Toronto's Indie Week, a competition to find the city's best unsigned talent, beating out over 300 other acts to win a distribution deal with the Canadian branch of Universal Music.
Taking home six Toronto Music Awards for her album, Perfekt World, Clara partnered with Action Against Hunger, an international humanitarian organization whose mission is to eliminate malnutrition as a disease around the world. Perfekt World was produced by Mark Turrigiano, (Ingrid Michaelson's, Boys and Girls).
Clara currently lives in Brooklyn, NY where many artists and musicians seek to collaborate on various projects. She has been producing at the legendary Avatar Studios, (formerly Power Station) for the past year. She looks forward to touring Europe this summer and has recently made a promise to herself; She will follow her muse, music where it leads her and meet it with sincerity and conviction. The voice drawn from that will reach beyond boundaries and connect in the ways that matter most.
