Chrono Khalid

"I don't like gimmicks."



The young Queens born producer, Chrono Khalid, has always been destined for creative greatness. He did not fall far from the musical family tree, as the son of a bass player; he began playing the xylophone at the young age of four. He moved along with his parents and large family to California at the age of ten but life detoured for Chrono when his father's health took an unfortunate turn for the worst and he was forced into hustling as a means to survive. Yet even in the streets, he still seemed to find music all around him and says that he started making miniature beats on a $12 keyboard he bought off someone at the age of ten.



"I love to study instruments, study how they work, sounds and tones are what adds magic to your compositions. It's all about sound at the end of the day. If you incorporate instruments into your music depending on the instrument used, you'll gives it a different vibe and twist everytime. Sound actually inspires me more than anything, more than actual compositions. The sound gives me the actual idea and then it's like starting with a [musical] skeleton and building it up."



At the age of sixteen, Chrono's natural music ability put him back on track. The now, self-taught bass and keyboard player, decided to take charge of his life and moved back to New York to finish high school and pursue making music. He credits his interest in rapping and producing as the catalysts or much needed wake-up call that launched him in a positive direction. He began studying performance arts (Broadway shows, plays, musicals, etc) and taking orchestra composition courses where he was introduced to film scoring. Chrono continued building his technical knowledge of instruments and engineering, gaining insight and influence from musical greats including: legendary composer Joe Hisaishi, Raphael Saadiq, Just Blaze, Ted Riley, DJ Premiere, Prince, Miles Davis and rappers, Jay-Z, Nas, Tupac, and Biggie. He cultivated his ability to recognize diverse style by learning to listen on a deeper level and says that he has an ear for a wide variety of music ranging from Eastern Asian classical to hip hop to Russian Progression to American jazz to psychedelic soul.



"I give credit to my higher self for my ability to be musically inclined. I'm glad I have a feel for the creation of new music, because at one time you had a lot of hip hop producers sampling, everybody was sampling at one point. I was sampling because it was a part of hip hop but I kind of got out of it. I don't really like to sample anymore as much (no diss to sample based producers I love sample based works and still sample when inspired). Music is about creating something new instead of something old, all these old samples have already been flipped before; they've been done. I want to be sampled one day."



In late 2005, Chrono found himself back on the California scene and the production fast track. Within months, he collaborated with Zell to form role playing music groups and over the course of just a couple of years, Chrono Khalid has done beats for the likes of Christina Milian, Lil Eazy'E, Nyoil, and TUG Entertainment in addition to producing movie score orchestrations for numerous Japanese anime films. Many production greats have been impressed by his recent moves and he has been endorsed by super producers in the game. He is currently in the studio eagerly recording his own much awaited album and anxiously shopping tracks to various R&B and urban pop artists/acts.



On his bright future and musical career ahead Chrono Khalid closed with this: "My music isn't just for five percent of the people in the world, or just those who can understand it, my music is for everyone."
