Hello, my name is Chris Trevett. I am a producer, mixer, songwriter specializing in protools mixing currently based in Nashville, TN. Although I still spend time in New York and London when work and or family calls.
I have been in the music business for over 23 years now. It's all I have ever done. I started as an intern at Battery Studios in London and worked my way up. My big break came when the owner of Zomba (Clive Calder) caught me practicing mixing in one of the studios on a Sunday morning. (the song was Long and Winding Road by Billy Ocean). Monday morning I got a call to see the studio manager and was promoted to assistant and was told I would be going to work with Mutt Lange to learn how to make records. About a month or so later I went off to Mutt's house out in the country to work on some Billy Ocean songs for his upcoming album. One of the songs was "Get Out of My Dreams, Get Into My Car". (Over my career I have spent many months in the studio with Mutt on various projects for which I am truly thankful. He's one of the true genius's in the history of this business and on top of that a really great guy.)
Over the next year or so I worked with a wide array of artists from Black Sabbath to Stone Roses to Whodini and let's not forget Samantha Fox.
In 1989 I moved to New York and started work at Soundtrack Studios. My big break there came when Teddy Riley whom I met in London during the making of Kool Moe Dee's album came in to work. I ended up mixing 3 songs on Guy's "The Future" record one of which was "Let's Chill". Right after this I met Dallas Austin who was working across the hall on a group called Boy's II Men. I mixed several songs on the album called Cooleyhighharmony.
Shortly after this I got a call from Zomba owner Clive Calder and had a meeting where he offered me a job as staff producer / engineer for Jive Records. An offer I could not refuse.
My first project for Jive was to finish recording and mix a record for a new signing. The new signing was R. Kelly. Born Into the 90's was my first platinum record which I had mixed the entire album.
During my 11 years at Jive I worked with some of the most talented people in this business. The highlights include winning 2 Grammys and having record sales of over 100 million. Some of the multi platinum artists include Prince, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Will Smith, Joe, N'Sync. While at Jive I also spent 5 years in the A&R department as director.
Since leaving Jive when the company was sold in 2002 I have been freelance.
2008 brings me to Nashville, yeehaw I came to Nashville on a leap of faith because I felt this is where it's at. This is the place where they are still making lots of records and making records is what I do.
