_ Christoper M. Listorti, Words that Suture Wounded Hearts (www.chrislistorti.com). On the surface, Listorti comes off as a proficient version of one of those indie-folk guys — an acoustic guitarist/pianist with a pleasant tenor (with a quaver in there) and a batch of songs that match Americana-ish chord progressions to literary lyrics.
_ Going deeper, it's clear that not only is his playing deceptively complex, but his arrangements — which frequently bloom into a full-band sound are about as rooted in a classic pop-rock form as they are in the more contemporary wistful-guy- with-a-guitar idiom.
_ Lyrically, these 12 songs address love, spirituality and life's purpose. There's just enough doubt and bittersweetness to pull them back from the edge of sentimentality. It's a pretty, polished, nuanced effort, and it stands out in an increasingly crowded musical sub genre.
