A friend of mine recently called me 'A Gentlemen's Gentleman' and the phrase had so many implications and inside jokes, I decided I had to use it. Considering that my humor has always been a blend of the high and low brow, I thought it was only fitting to design and theme my show after that old school saying.
"There are times when I come across an artist that I do not wish to classify in a music group. [He] is one of these artists." ~The Music Review
I'm quite different from other singer-songwriters. Usually when they sit down and talk about themselves, they generally talk about their influences and their recordings. I like to talk about my show. I am very proud of my show. I work abnormally hard on my show, everything from the banter to the order to the outfit.
I've never really considered myself a recording artist. Personally, I hate singing in the studio -- a little soundproof box with a microphone. It's all so drab, so constricting, and so uninspiring. While other artists are twisting knobs and adding effects, I'd practice in my room not just the songs that I would sing, but the jokes and stories I would tell. The perfect song order that would give just the right amount of ebb and flow.
"Chris' sound defies the fact that he's so young. It's a mature sound, both vocally and lyrically." ~ Upbeat Radio
So this obsessive dedication to the live act made me decide to record a live album. It's something I've always wanted to do, but I waited until I had the needed stage experience to do it. I felt like after 4 years of constantly doing show after show, open mic after open mic that I've got the road wear, the hubris, and the personal stupidity to record my show in its entirety.
Sometime this fall, I'm hoping to find the right venue, invite a whole bunch of friends plus a few strangers, and then have it recorded, mixed, and mastered by the start of 2011. Nothing like kicking off the new year with a new album. The only challenge will be: after I release the record, I'll have to rewrite my show!
