70s baby, early 80s childAmir has been a successful Black Music DJ for a couple of years. Meanwhile he creates his own beats for his DJ sets, spins his records at parties with international top DJs and works a in team with German Celebrities in the context of a special event series.

Though Amir considers himself an R&B DJ, his enthusiasm for music reaches far beyond the usual genre boundaries what could be understood by a look at his personal history: When he was a young boy, his family fled from Iran. Music for Amir was not only his favorite hobby, but - as he acknowledges in retrospect - the means to get integrated into the German society.

Impressed by bands like Queen, The Police and Metallica Amir jointly founded a rock band with friends, in which he was the drummer. For a subsequent black music DJ, this is a really unusual entry, but it explains his good understanding of beats.

Producing his own beats Amir sees as a logical step to benefit from that musical experience. He creates new beats and combines them with existing songs in order to lend his DJ sets more exclusiveness. To expend effort on such a high level for Amir is less a question of vanity but of having something special to offer to the audience

“Preparation always pays”, Amir knows from experience, “whether you're the resident or the guest DJ“. At home in the Ruhr area there is hardly a hot spot in which DJ Amir had not yet put his capabilities to the test. Furthermore he had gigs at clubs in Munich, Leipzig and Berlin.

Apart from R&B, House Music is an important part in DJ Amir’s musical style. What a great combination R&B and House Music make he has already experienced for many years in the clubs. In his private life he doesn't accept genre limits anyway, for him it’s all about quality and the good feeling music can give.

Regardless of all his openness for all the different types of quality music, R&B and Hip Hop remain unchallenged in the first place. That's why he flew to New York last May to see Mary J. Blige and Jay-Z on their “Heart of the Cities Tour” concert at Madison Square Garden. Even though he earns money with DJing, when it comes to his favourite music, first and foremost Amir remains an

enthusiastic fan.

Albeit Amir likes to meet new people, travelling around as a guest DJ is only the welcome exception to the rule. Most interesting always has been being a resident DJ. For Amir, who by the way works as an IT specialist in his nine-to-five job, working together as a good team means more to Amir than to shine in front of a different audience every week. To surprise the regulars is much more challenging, Amir thinks. “It’s not enough to have one good set and using it week after week. A resident must be more creative. Not to forget the special responsibility: In the end it’s the resident who sets the sound of the club“.

Team play is essential so the audience gets its moneys worth: “The best DJ can’t run the show alone, but he could spoil things for all party people.” Resident and guest DJ should not perceive as competitors, “A party is not a DJ battle.” DJ Amir has already worked together with Cassidy, Shawn Desman, Bad Boy Bill and Eric Pryds.

To join forces pays, this shows up for Amir particularly with regard to the Bouge La Piste DJ Crew, which he formed with DJ Tymie-T and Vincent Thomas in 2002. They support each other in their solo projects from the beginning.

Amir’s Project “Celebrities at the Turntables” at his resident club Nightrooms, which started in 2006, is a roaring success, therefore he plans to lift it up to a higher level.

“Celebrities at the Turntables” works like that: The club engages VIPs like TV-hosts and models who want to give DJing a trial. Most of them have marginal experience. In order that the VIP of the evening would not regret his or her foray to the DJ business Amir has to deploy all his skill in the background.

Amir sees his role as a coach who prepares the whole gig among with the prominent guest and ensures that the event goes off without a hitch. There was so much positive feedback from the celebrities Amir worked with that he feels very optimistic about branching out. “This business model will work for other club owners as well”, Amir declares with utter conviction. “For a small extra charge they get a working team. A double pack with celebrity status and years of DJ experience.” He says it with a twinkle in his eye, because in the first place Amir Ansari sees himself as a musician, music fan and DJ, not so much as a salesman.
