Chicas de Canela

Latin Grammy Nominee: Chicas De Canela is a four-piece all-female band based in Corpus Christi, Texas. Blending a combination of cumbia beats with rock, reggae, pop, and other contemporary rhythms, these girls are poised to make a huge splash in the Latin music industry. Band members include Didi (lead vocals and guitar), Cynni (keyboards and accordion), T.T. (bass and background vocals), and Lissi (percussion and background vocals). Chicas De Canela formed in the fall of 2007. The girls released their (self titled) debut album in April 2008, which featured several up-tempo cumbias that showcase the group’s knack for crafting catchy melodies and beats. Soon after the release of their album, Cynni received an endorsement from Hohner Accordions, and Lissi received an endorsement from Toca Percussion. The girl band was notified that their debut album had received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Cumbia/ Vallenato Album Of The Year. In November 2008, Chicas de Canela attended the Latin Grammys in Houston, Texas as the only band outside of Colombia nominated in that category. They also received the award for Best Tropical Album at Premios A La Musica Latina in 2009. Chicas de Canela has been touring throughout the United States, enticing crowds onto the dance floor with their energetic shows and danceable cumbia/ vallenato sound. The girls released their second album, "Paparazzi" in the Fall of 2009. Expectations are extremely high for what promises to be one of the most exciting groups in Latin music.
