CHEAP STAR is a power trio from Paris, France.
Impregnated by the music of The Byrds, George Harrison and Big Star, their songs evoke as much AM Californian Radios of the 70' s as the college rock of R.E.M., The Posies and Guided By Voices.
Their first demo tapes elaborated on their 8 track drew the attention of artists such as Paul Chastain (Velvet Crush), Anthony Bautovitch (The Forresters, The Orange Humble Band) and Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, Big Star, R.E.M.) with whom they worked with the recording of half of their album.
The other half was recorded by the amazing Jon Auer (The Posies, Big Star). The full LP, entitled "Speaking Like an Elephant" (Z&Zoe Records) is now available!
Anthony Bautovich (The Forresters, The Orange Humble Band)
The songs are very good. The first thing it reminded me of is Evan Dando (The Lemonheads). The double track vocal thing you're doing is very effective and the way you record your harmonies sounds real nice.
Paul Chastain (Velvet Crush)
It sounds cool, nice songs. The singing reminds me a little of Teenage Fanclub and I think the songs come across pretty well. Sounds like you guys have a common vision about the music. Keep up the good work!

Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, Big Star, R.E.M.)
Cheap Star are unaware or perhaps unconcerned that they are always in the future and moving forward.the name is an unpretentious homage to giants of the past, but the musicians here are doing what we all attempt to do.chewing up the green fields of the well trampled culture and growing woolly fabric for the modern age.

And it is all done gently, humbly, and with great beauty. And they are happy to return to the mulch after their work is done and feed the next thoughtful grazers.delicious.
