Born Giancarlo Jarman Dittamo on September 17, 1988. Grew up in a home built by music in Waldwick, New Jersey. Son of Anne and Jay Dittamo, a professional drummer and percussionist.
Giancarlo’s passion for music began at a young age, sitting in the car singing along to the pop music his father would have to listen to for the weekend wedding bands he would play in. While learning to use the internet long before the kids in his class, Giancarlo would download instrumentals of Michael Jackson’s “Billy Jean” and Bon Jovi’s “Living on a Prayer” to write lyrics of his own over the tracks. Years later, after a long awaited arrival he would receive his first guitar and would begin taking lessons. Without any hesitation Dittamo soon began connecting with other musicians in the local music scene. In 2006, he joined pop/punk band Off Broadway on second guitar and backup vocals. This gave Giancarlo the opportunity to play shows on a weekly basis including the Ernie Ball stage on the 2007 Van’s Warped Tour, work with producer Jesse Cannon (The Cure) and to write and record the band’s “Learning How To Grow Apart” EP. In late 2008 Off Broadway decided to call it quits and GD went on to create solo music under the monicker of “Chaplin”. In late 2008 Chaplin’s only release “Collection of Demos 2007-2008” was made downloadable through iTunes. The album included songs such as “Unhappy”, “This Town”, and the most popular “Grapevines”.
It was now September of 2009. After a two year hiatus from creating music, Giancarlo began toying with the idea of creating a full length album in his small bedroom with just his project studio set up. For the next few months the amount of songs he had written began to build up and take form. With the working title of “Look What I Started” and the concept that all the songs would sound different and have their own personalities.
Look What I Started is OUT NOW!
