David Solages who uses the stage name stokes in his music career, is a Canadian rapper from Montreal, Quebec. Stokes was born to Haitian immigrant parents and was raised in one of the city’s poorest surroundings, park extension.

Music being part of his daily life routine, took a different approach in 2007 when he clashed with his elementary school buddies MJC and KARDI formally known as Duo Tang production. In fact, those two innovative music creators took interest in what this emerging talent had to bring to the table. Knowing that his influences were Jay-z, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Dr Dre, they knew something was different about this young buck.

They started their craft in 2008, recording several songs in order to come up with the first mix tape of this underground sensation titled too smart for my own good in 2009. Unfortunately the impact that this new team intended to have with this project, didn’t go to distance.

Slowly but surely, ambition being one of their qualities, they gave birth to the sophomore release, knowledge management in January 2010.

After showcasing at EB lounge his lyrical skills in front of a more conservative public, this artist finally got the attention he was aiming for. This event’s success earned him an interview with Jason Farrell and Lady Oracle, radio hosts of the limelight playing at CJLO 1690 AM also known as Concordia university non profit radio station .

The first single, Hello, featuring MJC took the young listeners by surprise and quickly became the number one leading vote getter for three consecutive months on Morburn Music, an hip hop website dedicated to connecting and spotlighting Montreal’s music community. It also got radio spins at K103 on the street sounds hosted by don smooth , the voice of the city.

Deejay DAX, owner of boom box studios, best describes stokes knowledge management as one of the best mixtape to come out this year in the city. This cross fader master also has worked with Toronto’s native, JD Era, and will now be touring with French rap superstar BOOBA.

Currently working on his third mixtape, this rising star offered a wide range of sounds variety, from jazz to R&B and from pop to underground on his two previous tapes.

What more can we expect from this poet ?
