Casualty (Thought Drift Poetry)

Carlos Mejia (Casualty) was born in East Los Angeles on December 2, 1982 from El Salvadorian descent. Casualty grew up on 8th & Alvarado, a block away from MacArthur Park, seeing gang shootouts, drug dealers, prostitution and poverty was an every day thing. In 1992 before the L.A riots Casualty moved away from L.A. and went to Huntsvillle Texas. He lived there for 3 years and decided to go to El Salvador. Thats were he started listening to hip hop artist such as Cypress Hill, Ice Cube, Public Enemy just to name a few,introduce Casualty to the hip hop world. In 1997 Casualty came back to L.A and started going to school. In 1998 he met Logik from a underground hip hop group called Bronson Unit and motivated him on writing lyrics and reading philosophy books. During the high school years Casualty met Menuk (Maestroe) who would beat box for young mcs like himself. Sharing common interest the relationship gradually developed. After graduating high school in 2002 they lost touch of each other. In 2003 he saw Casualty at a laundry mat. Maestroe by then was making beats and told Casualty to check some of his stuff out, Maestroes beats were hardcore, Casualty then decided to incorporate him in the Bronson Unit Crew. The members were Logik Provider, Casualty, Arsonist Lynch, D.U.I and D.N.M.E rest in peace. That same year Casualty and Maestroe decide to make their own group called Kovert Live. Kovert Live has shared the stage with artist such as: Black Sheep, Krs One, Awol ONe, Planet Asia, 2mex, Dafari, Abstract Rude just to name a few.
