- DVD CASA DE FARINHA

Its a beautiful city with its airplane shape (some would say its a butterfly). If there was a close satellite picture on 6 of July of 2005, it would be possible to see right in the heart of this plane, a huge line of approximately 2500 two-thousand people. The Villa Lobos Room had never received so many people in one night. They were simply Casa de Farinha fans, gathered to witness the recording of a video concert in order to celebrate in gold style, a five-year hard work of these struggling musicians.

These girls businesses have always been on a stage. For Débora Aquino and Marta Carvalho have been the theater itself. Its so beautiful to act a play along with live music; Simone Santos and Andrea Siqueira were also there. Well, the sound is so great, why not go on? Four soft voices and an ingenuous percussion. The first formation of Casa de Farinha had been then, formed.

These sound researches ran through many parties and traditions of Brazilian Popular Culture. It was the year of 2000.

The girls pleased, the audiences got bigger and bigger, and an improvement basis became an important step to go on. Drummer André Togni had already been following the project, when he joined the band as a Musical Producer. He finally then, gathered the band and brought all his jazzy influence, followed by Lupa along with his drumming noisiness. Simone left for a solo career and at last, musician and actress Cláudia Daibert joined the group.

All right!! Now Id like you to name these four girls, spice them up because the boys arent playing at all!!!

Since 2001, theyve been on the road, in Brazil, South America and Europe. In 2005, they were awarded as Best Regional Group by TIM premium contest.

All the recognition came along and its not a surprise, once it is impossible to be apart of this root Brazilian sonority, the strong beat and undeniably urban that makes any body to jump, dance and celebrate. Have you ever been in a Casa de Farinha Concert, buddy? No? Then you really should go and find out why Villa Lobos Room had never seen a crowd like the one in that night of 6 of July of 2005.

Brazilian National Hymn

(The version of the group Casa de Farinha)

The main point of Casa de Farinha, since its creation, is the valorization of Brazilian Culture diversity and the mixing influences among the regions of Brazil. Its a characteristic of those who live in a capital with many faces and may talk to the world as the same time as it makes its own cultural identity influenced by many people, and building up its own language in many art expressions.

To be part of a modern city like Brasília where its still under formation, as well as its culture, and being formed by Candangos (people who came to build Brasilia) sons, makes Casa de Farinha a different project, which its starting point has been the identification of the influences brought by these pioneers who built the capital, coming over from many states with their habits, culture and behaviors.

The first CD and concerts were released after all these expansions and researches in traditional areas of Brazil. Despite Casa de Farinha belongs to an urban reality; the group assumes in its musical background, the influence of the Brazilian Popular Culture, all with the same roots regardless the region.

All the members have experienced many graduations such as theater, jazz school, music school and all these elements make a rich artistic creativity process in a very modern view, considering that art is changeable.

From musical arrangements and simplicity of their songs and melodies, lyrics and poetry, to rhythm complexity, the band confirms the possibility of showing the richness of Brazilian culture and tradition, and innovating with elements of Brazilian popular culture, which can be found inside the music and art of these young artists of Brasilia.

The singing of Andréa, Claudia , Débora and Marta gives the perfect counterpoint along with the heavy strokes made by the percussionists André Togni and Lupa. Another interesting point is the absence of harmonic instruments such as, piano, acoustic and electric guitar, having Casa de Farinha a group of voices and percussions only, and all of this can be heard in the CD as well as the concerts.

This style took Casa de Farinha to find out new different sounds and alternative instruments such as, zinc, shock springs, pans, clock alarms and many others, adding to its songs a great and rich variety of sounds inspired by urban and country areas.

The Group thinks its very important to show all the cultural elements in its simple and spontaneous form of traditions and popular manifestations, expressed in beliefs and habits of Brazil, but not less important than the academic culture.

The contact of these Brazilian traditional elements mixed up with a modern language, are the main goal of Casa de Farinha, through its music, concerts and social projects, the band shows the interest in Brazilian rich popular culture.

The group has performed in many Brazilians cities, Montevideu (Uruguay) and Paris (France), where many compliments of critics and audience have been made.
