CARBONO:

Elmontuno and Caobanikel form the Latin Hip Hop powerhouse that is called CARBONO. The word CARBONO translated into English means the element Carbon; Carbon in Spanish means coal. It is from this concept that Caobanikel and Montuno, proud of their African roots, get the idea of making a play of words for the name, since they consider the fact that their blackness is elemental for the creation of their original sound. Hailing from Bogotá, Colombia, CARBONO blends many sounds from both the Pacific and Atlantic regions, creating Hip Hop grooves with classic Latin rhythms such as son, guaguanco, salsa, and tossing in some funk, rock and old school sounds. Sony Music released their first album Compadres Raptores, and although currently out of print, the CD is considered a classic in Colombias Hip Hop underground. Both members of CARBONO are considered Hip Hop royalty in their native Colombia.



CARBONOs first single Vos tampoco te escapas reached the top 20 in many markets, and the video received airplay on many video channels around the region. It reached Top ten most requested status on MTV Latin America. CARBONO have also been the image for an Aguardiente Nectar television campaign. (Aguardiente Nectar is one of the top selling liquors in Colombia), and have appeared as themselves in Spanish soap operas such as Por que diablos and Perro amor, which both aired on the Telemundo network in the US. CARBONO have also shared the concert stage with artists such as Molotov, Hector y Tito, Don Omar, Aterciopelados and DLG among others. They are also regular headliners for Rap al parque, Colombias largest annual Hip Hop festival.



Now CARBONO, on their quest to infect the world with their contagious sound, are soon to release LATIN HIP HOP ALL STARS (Record Label Music / Perfect Image Records/ Universal Music) in early spring of 2005. This new album was recorded and produced between Colombia and Miamis Audiolounge Recording Studios by Dennis Murcia, a music industry veteran who has developed, produced and signed other Latin acts such as Shakira, Los de Adentro and Maia. CARBONOs effort is an explosive mix of old school Hip Hop, Reggeton, and Latin Rhythms. Their lyrics are powerful, serious, and funny all at the same time. CARBONO makes you think and makes you laugh. I guess it has to do with the fact that we come from a country that is so violent and plagued with so many problems, yet everybody seems to know how look at the bright side of things. This attitude is reflected in our lifestyle. We want people to be conscientious when they listen to our music, but we also want them to have fun, laugh and party with it
