CALICO

CALICO was born in Philadelphia, PA and raised in Washington, D.C. Pronounced "Cal-liko," the name was given because of the synonymity of his rhyme style. From studio sessions to downtown D.C. street corner battles,
he always managed to awe his audience. He considers himself the last of a rapidly dying breed -- one amongst few that continues to pride himself on great Hip Hop.
His style is owed to his life experiences.
He would lay on one twin bed writing while his brother laid on the other loudly blasting a Cash Money & DJ Marvelous album in his headphones. He was too young to listen because of the explicit content, but he could hear the low, muzzled voices and the eardrum piercing beats. From that point on, he knew that rap beats were what he’d sync his poetry to.
His foray into the recording arena was when he met a neighborhood DJ by the name of Saykoo. Saykoo was an up and coming nightclub DJ with a bedroom studio. On weekends, while the rest of neighborhood was sleep, CALICO was knocking on Saykoo’s door prepared with a pencil & pad. Recording suddenly came to a disappointing end when the DJ relocated to Los Angeles. As time went on, CALICO gathered enough money to purchase studio equipment from pawn shops and thrift stores piece by piece. He took flight from that point.
