BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE WILD BUNCH

PREHISTORIC ERA



Zach and I first met through a mutual friend in Fairhaven, Massachusetts during the Summer of 2004. The two of us hit it off pretty quickly and decided to stay in touch, despite the fact that he was leaving for the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in the Fall, and I would be returning for another year of high school.



When Zach returned to New Bedford during the UMass Winter Recess, the two of us decided to meet in my parents' basement, with the intention of writing either folk or dance music. Each of us had recently disbanded Indie groups we had formed and were eager to try our hand at something new. It didn't take us long to realize that folk wasn't going to work, so with a pirated copy of FruityLoops3 and a MicroKorg, we set to work writing our first dance tracks.



We played our first show later that month at a friends' house in a nearby suburb, and despite a hopeless setup involving a boombox, we somehow brought the house down and sparked a massive dance party. A matter of weeks later, we were contacted by Eric Marcelino, a.k.a. DJ E-Marce, a prominent New Bedford promoter, who had heard through word of mouth that BCWB was worth booking. Eric booked us to play one of his all-ages NBVIP events at the local live music venue, the New Wave Cafe, and the shows kept coming.
