Bunka Busta

Bunka Busta was formed in 2004 by Byron & Bruno, out of a pure love for electronic music. The Bunka boys were also bored of watching DJs simply lay down records, so they decided to bring the "live show element" back to the club scene. Bunka Busta's live shows are bursting with energy as Byron drops loops and layers guitars and vocals on the fly over Bruno's bangin' beats. Bunka Busta's music breathes life into club music through their enticing melodies and their addictive lyrical flow. Electronic music is an art form traditionally driven by drum machines, samplers, synthesizers and dj's, so for Byron, his foray into making music with a DJ as opposed to a band was a logical progression, and it all started back in 1996. This was the year Daft Punk dropped their debut LP, Homework, and changed the face of electronic music, catapulting loop based house music out of the underground and proving its value as a "commercially" acceptable art form. Byron sites Daft Punk's Homework and the off the wall style of Bassment Jaxx as two of the most important influences in the Bunka Busta sound. Since 1996, Byron's been experimenting and pushing boundaries with guitars & vocals, as he emulates the sounds of synthesizers with the use of filter modelers, dynamic wahs, the e-bow and Stanley Jordan guitar techniques. He's also experimented with various vocal techniques; one of the most interesting is how using Mongolian throat singing techniques, Byron is able to imitate electronically-altered sounds with his own natural voice. Byron has crafted a truly unique sound. Bunka Busta's sound draws heavy influence from many of the world's greatest electronic artists including: Kraftwerk, Daft Punk, Aphex Twin, Basement Jaxx, Kid Koala, Massive Attack, Tiga, Cassius, Felix the House Cat, Prodigy, Crystal Method, Mauro Picotto, and DJ Dan, to name a few. Byron's classical and jazz training, funked up with a profound fascination for 70s sounds and electronic music has propelled Bunka Busta into an un-charted guitar-based electronic music territory, a place where there are no rules to follow. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our world. Since the inception of Bunka Busta the group has performed more than 200 shows and is signed with the Milagro Records label. Bunka Busta's first full length album, Rocket Roller Coaster, is scheduled to drop May 22nd, 2007 in Canada, and worldwide in the near future. Launch parties are scheduled for the 19th of May in Quebec City and Montreal on the 30th of May. Bunka Busta a été formé à cause de l’amour que Byron et Bruno, les deux membres principaux du groupe, portent pour la musique électronique, mais aussi parce qu’ils trouvaient qu’un D.J. derrière ses platines pouvait parfois être ennuyant à regarder. Le but du groupe est de ramener l'élément "spectacle" dans les clubs et discothèques. Bruno mixe et fait grimper le rythme pendant que Byron improvise avec sa voix et sa guitare, le tout calculé au quart de tour! Les vinyles qu’ils utilisent sont leurs musiciens. Tout se fond ensemble pour que le public ne remarque pas les mixages de sons. Vous vous demandez peut-être ce qu’un guitariste peut bien faire avec un D.J. dans cette forme d’art électronique traditionnellement régie par le beat box, l’échantillonneur, les synthétiseurs et les vinyles. Pour Byron, tout a commencé en 1996, lorsque Daft Punk a changé le monde de la musique électronique en la faisant sortir de l’ombre. Depuis ce temps, Byron expérimente avec sa guitare et tente d’amener des choses différentes de celles qui existent en modulant le son des synthétiseurs à l’aide de filtres modeleurs, de wah-wah, d’un e-bow et des techniques de guitare de Stanley Jordan. Avec des techniques de chant de gorge Mongoliennes, Byron est capable d’imiter des sons modifiés électroniquement avec sa seule voix. Ses influences électroniques sont, Kraftwerk, Daft Punk, Aphex Twin, Basement Jaxx, Kid Koala, Massive Attack, Tiga, Cassius, Felix the House Cat, Prodigy, Crystal Method, Mauro Picotto et DJ Dan, pour ne nommer que ceux-là. Les techniques de guitare classique et jazz de Byron (rehaussées par une profonde fascination pour le son des années 70) et mélangées avec la musique électronique, amènent Bunka Busta vers des territoires encore vierges. Il n’y a pas de règles à suivre ni aucun précédent. Mesdames et messieurs, nous sommes fins seuls… Bienvenue dans notre monde!
