I was born in Camden, Arkansas. Moms and pops separated when I was nine years old, and so I grew up like any other young poor kid living with a single mom. I never had a desire to go to church and so I fed on the philosophies that rap music taught. You know, lies like; the police is the devil, school is for chumps, daddy don't care about his kids (especially since that was all moms told me), and mamma can't raise a man. So at the age of 12, I joined a street gang, the nineties crips. I gained respect by fighting rival gang members, breaking in people cribs, and robbing people. Since moms worked long hours on her job to make ends meet, the streets became my babysitter.
On January 18, 1994, my uncle (who was also my best friend and gang member) was shot and killed at the age of 16. It took such a tremendous toll on my life that I became depressed and suicidal. So that summer, my momma sent me to stay with an older cousin in Dallas where I began writing poems, that eventually turned into rap. At the age of 15, I was recognized as one of the most popular freestyle rappers at the school that I was attending. But unfortunately, my behavior had worsened, and my grades were slipping. In the fall of 1996, I got into trouble for auto theft and was sent to a juvenile facility in Oklahoma, then to Louisiana. When I was released, nothing changed. I began to drink strong liquor, and smoke weed heavily. I was constantly being suspended from school, and was in and out of jail. By the time I was 18, I was receiving death threats from rival gangs over street wars, I had been expelled indefinitely from high school, and had been arrested for armed robbery and battery in the first.
When I was 19, I accepted an invitation to go to church from a youth pastor. After attending 2 Sunday morning services, I gave my life to Christ during an alter call after hearing a teaching from Mathew 24. It was good to know that I was finally free from a life that had me bound for years, and that joy was strongly felt while I was at church. But every time I came home, I was reminded of the jungle I lived in, and the life style I was once slave to. But God was faithful to me, He gave me a hunger for His word, and like a diver seeking a underwater pearl, I sought out scripture to know the truth. As I grew in the knowledge of Gods word, I prayed and asked God not to take away my gift of writing rhymes and allow me to use it for His glory. For the past 4 years, I've been writing Christian rap to influence, convict, and impact the lives of men and women. I've been blessed to be involved in several events and talent showcases such as: gospel dream, the Mixx Masters Lounge Show (which aired on the INSP Channel), I've done several showcases during the gma week in Nashville, along with ministering to hundreds of youth at many church functions, youth conferences, and public parks.
I believe its Gods will for me to bring His message through what we know today as Holy Hip Hop. I know what it feels like to be lost, and to be found, and God has used me to communicate to them both.

Dear listener,

The Interlude was originally purposed to be the first of many mixtapes. But after considering the fact that I have many, many songs that I really want people to have, I thought it would be best to just release my first independent record. I'm excited about this album because it allows people to see into who i am as an artist. I come from the streets, and as a believer, that's where I gear a lot of my ministry towards whether it's through soul winning or rapping. As far as the songs that I recorded for the mixtape, I will be releasing them in the near future. I pray that something is said on this CD that will help you in your walk with the Father. Get this album, it's a real good record.

God Bless,
Brothatone
