HAVE YOU HEARD OF.JUST THE KID!?
Saccharine-sweet choruses and bursts of kinetic energy are packed into each and every of Just The Kid's songs. The Quad Cities natives meld a diverse array of pop, rock and hip-hop into dance floor ready tracks that ooze with a vitality in a scene that's too often dominated by haircuts instead of hooks.
The quintet - consisting of vocalist Jordan "Roldy" Teel, guitarists Paul Bridgford and Derek Esp, bassist Jonathan "Jonny" Guyton and drummer Bryce Schroeder, formed in February 2009 combining members of two local bands Bridgeford and 9heart21. Combined, group members have performed with the likes of bands like All Time Low, The Rocket Summer and Hit The Lights.
With experience already under their belts, Just The Kid wasted no time writing and recording. In July 2009, they released Keep It Fun!, their debut EP.
Keep It Fun! is not only just a title. It's the band's modus operandi. "We all have agreed that we think our music is feel good music," says guitarist Paul Bridgford. "There's always an upbeat vibe to our shows, and we try to project that image as well."
Just the Kid provides itself on the skyrocketing zest of their live performances. With songs like the anthemic "Come Baby Come (Tell Me What You Want)", Just The Kid infects the crowd with irresistible energy. "We get people to dance at our shows," he says. "A lot of our songs have sing along and gang vocals that the crowd really likes to take part in."
Even with a brand new EP turning heads, Just The Kid is not prepared to slow down any time soon. The self described ambitous and hard working group have more than half a dozen songs ready for a future release.
Just The Kid may have started as a compromise between two lesser groups, but there's no compromise for the vision they have now. "We're always looking to have a good time," says Bridgford.
