Gigs include Manchester’s Dry Bar Roadhouse, Oldham’s Castle and Jackson’s Pit. The band have been featured on Clint Boon’s (Inspiral Carpets) XFM radio show, Revolution Radio and are regularly played on Pulse Rated

BRIDES OF NEPTUNE – ‘Seven Is Sea’ (self-released) NICK

So, its safe to say I don’t have much knowledge of folk-driven alt-rock, by much I mean any at all, but I do know what constitutes a good song, and this four song EP offers three very good ones and one not too bad effort. Northern five-piece Brides Of Neptune have several factors in their favour – singer Jez has a great warm voice, their use of violin and harmonica is never over-powering, and above all, in the shape of ‘Hold Fast’ and ‘Strange Attractor’ in particular, they have cracking songs. The former is a minimal, restrained effort that then kicks in to a juddering bassline in impressive style, with the latter offering up an uplifting shot of alt-rock that’s perfect for Sunday morning listening (I say that cause I’m writing the review on a Sunday morning and it sounds just right). Only the slightly distorted vocals and edgy feel of ‘Seven’ somewhat tarnish what’s an otherwise excellent effort
