At Brian Weaver's home, everything has a place. And not only does it have its place, but everything has been purposefully placed. It's the same with his music. One listen and you'll hear the purposeful placement of his lyrics. Listen closer, and you'll hear what's on his heart.
Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Brian spent much of his childhood taking piano lessons. He picked up the guitar during his junior year in high school, practicing several hours a week with the goal of playing well enough to lead worship. He took the musical reins of the high school group at his church when he was a freshman in college.
His involvement with Young Life has allowed him to lead worship and perform at multiple leadership retreats, area meetings and Arizona State University's West Campus college group. Not only that, but Brian was invited to play at multiple Young Life summer camps from 2006 through 2010, allowing him to witness to over 6,000 campers.
Through his connection with Young Life, Brian has built many relationships, one of the biggest being with Dove Award winner Brandon Heath (Reunion/PLG/Sony). In 2004, Brian was placed on a month-long assignment with Brandon, allowing him the privilege to lead music alongside him for a month. The preceding year allowed the two to connect on multiple occasions, giving Brian the opportunity to ask Brandon for advice on musical arrangements. Brandon soon became one of the major influences of Brian's decision to pursue music on a larger scale.
Since 2006, Brian has been performing alongside artists such as Jars of Clay, Tenth Avenue North (Provident), Jonny Diaz (INO), Todd Agnew (INO), Phil Keaggy, Shawn McDonald (Sparrow Records/EMI CMG), Phil Joel, Chris & Conrad (VSR Music Group/EMI CMG), JJ Heller (Stone Table Records), Jadon Lavik, Lara Landon, Robbie Seay Band (Sparrow), Audrey Assad (Sparrow), Esterlyn (VSR Music Group/ EMI CMG), and Future of Forestry (Credential Recordings); also including appearances at Spirit West Coast Del Mar and Monterey festivals.
His life verse is Ephesians 4:1-2: "I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love." Brian's calling is to pursue music and, most importantly, to share the Gospel of the Kingdom through his music -- through church ministry, outreach ministries such as Young Life or other outlets. But as soon as Brian hears God unlocking a door, you can be sure Brian will be right there ready to open it. He believes being an artist is more than just getting up onstage and playing music; it's about relationships. God designed us for relationships, and just as James 4:8 says to "[d]raw close to God, and He will draw close to you," Brian believes it is his calling to pursue those around him, not wait for them to pursue him. He has been given a bright light to shine, and he is looking for the highest hill to climb.
Right now, Brian is patiently figuring out the balance between humility and being bold. He's recently come to believe that life is not about trying. Trying is impossible; you either do something or you don't. Brian is here to be a doer. He's here to take his music, his ministry and his life to a whole new level. And he hopes his listeners enjoy the journey as much as he does.
Brian recently released his self-titled album through VSR Music Group and EMI/CMG Distribution.
