Brian Hoeche

Brian began playing at age eleven when his older sister started guitar lessons as he recalls "She would leave with her friends and I would run into her room, grab her book and guitar and try to learn all I could before she got back. It was crazy". Sergeo Leone made a major impact in Brians desire to play. "Well, when I was young my father would take us to the drive-in to watch those Italian westerns with Clint Eastwood. I'd hear these incredible sounds and just be blown away everytime. I wanted so bad to be able to take those sounds home with me. My friends and I would duel in the street with sticks that looked like old cival war guns and I would sing the music.and no one could draw until I was done(laughs)" After learning "Stairway to Heaven" and every Ted Nugent riff he could, Brian still felt like something was missing. His uncle, Lonnie Dean who was (a thumb and finger ) picker from Nashville, visited. During a big family get together, Brian says "he pulled out his guitar and began to play and sing. "I was just a kid running around the house. I would hear him in there doing some cool stuff but when my mom asked him to play "Malaguena" by Roy Clark and he began that opening riff I stopped in my tracks. It was an almost heavenly experienceI mean I got down on my knees right in front of him and just freaked out. That sounded like the music I had heard at the drive-in. Now the poor guy couldn't get rid of me. I followed him around the rest of the day"In high school, Brian began playing in different bands. "I would practice in this old chicken coop with my friends (Steve Wahl) and (Buck Mcdowell), on our property. The kids in the old neighborhood would come down, it was loud man. The police would have to shut us down sometimes. One of the first songs we wrote was called "Chicken coop blues".Brian's playing would take a major turn after what he called "The day that changed everything" "I was playing in a band with a guy who was nuts on the guitar (Dennis Kemper). He was smokin everybody around. I went to his house one day to practice and he said"man you gotta hear this new album I just got". He put it on.my jaw dropped, my hands shook and I was absolutly speechless. The album was "Friday Night in SanFransisco" With Al DiMeola, Paco Delucia and John McLaughlin. I had never heard anything like that. We were both in a new world and these guys were all of a sudden the masters of the universe. I bought the album and played it a million times"Brian would go on to play in several different bands."I was always trying to go back to that spanish sound but it wasn't the thing that could get gigs. I finally took a break and started jammin with my best friend (Rik Hilborn), who is an incredible musician. We would write these epic songs that lasted twenty minutes (laughs)oh man it was awesome. We would start our practice sessions in the afternoon and wouldn't get done until the sun was about to come up the next morning"A few years later Brian formed the band Intense Confession with (Eric Duke on drums) and (Scott Burns on the bass). The band did two albums "Into the Forbidden" and "Whispers of Fear". Gigging all around the area, the band developed a huge following"It was fun.Scott was like this bass playin freak that reminded me of a cross between Steve Harris and Geddy Lee. And Eric played drums like a maddman, as a matter of fact, we were looking at a pic of him playing when we came up with the name of the band. They are both "Intense" musicians.people would come out to see us play a whole set of almost nothing but instrumentals. We really had it made. We could play whatever we wanted and get gigs.those were the good old days of big hair and lightning arpeggios" .Years passed and Brian finally released his first solo album "Lydian Dream" with great response.
