Formed in 2007 by five friends sick and tired of mediocre, middle of the road pop
rock slewing out the UK, Newport’s Boys With X-Ray Eyes knew they had something
to say, and more to the point, knew exactly how to say it.
Their self financed debut album ‘Heavy Lies The Crown’ (which is now completely
sold out and out of print) garnered the band a strong following and a stream of
critical acclaim. Recorded in Seattle, the album is an 11 track assortment of metal
infused hardcore and displayed the bands technical ability, let alone down right
ballsy ambition.
Based on the strength of their debut album alone, the band were hand picked for
several support slots including Skindred, Architects, Johnny Truant, Misery Signals
and The Fall Of Troy. They have also gone on to sell out headline shows of their own
at venues such as Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff.
The bands 2010 follow up to ‘Heavy Lies The Crown’, six track EP ‘Oh My! How We
Terrify’ was recorded at The Lodge studio in South Wales and put simply was no
mean feat. Shortly before entering the studio bass player Norman decided to leave
the band (to be subsequently replaced by Rhys Griffiths). Despite the obvious kick to
the teeth, ‘Oh My!’ came together with a fluidity that no-one could have imagined. A
technical masterpiece of woven, intertwined bass patterns and guitar work.
With the new EP recorded and ready, Boys With X-Ray Eyes are now primed to
show 2010 exactly what they’ve got – make sure you are ready.
