Boondocks Music is the tradename for a new group on the rise. Johnny "2 guns" Salcido and Adam "Bomb" Vigil created Boondocks Music on the west side of Phoenix AZ. Their story is made up of triumph and tragedy but most importantly, succeeding against all odds, and being first, is nothing new to the duo who founded the group and the label Illstreet Records.
The group started out opening for legendary groups such as WAR, Mary Wells, Tierra, Kid Frost, and Paul Wall; while performing on the west coast for cult like fans of the low rider car circuit. Having worked with: Mack 10, Kool G Rap, B-Real of Cypress Hill, Jonathon Davis of Korn, and toured with Young Jeezy. A former street hustler and a skateboard kid, have evolved into two men who are now major players in the entertainment industry.
These two young men watched Hip Hops most important people, like Russell Simmons and Kool G Rap--taking notes. Boondocks Music and Illstreet Records have been making history ever since, with behind the scenes work: for the majors, the independents, most influential, and now for fans. With aspirations to go global; Johnny 2Guns Salcido has executive produced albums and records with Kool G Rap, Mack 10, Boondocks Music, Papoose, DJ Magik Mike, Sway and King Tech, Digital Underground, Gap Band, Tag Team and has overseen labels for over the past 10 years. Additional notable accomplishments in their careers include being the first out of the southwest as Mexican rappers, putting out their own recordings. Soul Sauce Recordings (later changed to Illstreet records distributed by Universal) which incidentally was Phoenix Arizona's first independent record label--released Straight out of Nowhere; February 7, 1995. The album has sold nearly 40,000 copies, and is still selling to date. Since the label has ongoing distribution, they've recorded and released the album Nutmeg: Ghetto's Child by "NUTMEG" which also featured Kool G Rap. Such release spawns the name change of the company to Illstreet Records; in honor and respect of Kool G Rap's song Illstreet Blues. The first album released on the Illstreet Record's Label was by Kool G Rap: Roots of Evil. The album sold over 100,000 copies and is still selling worldwide. XXL Magazine named the album "The come back story of the year". A short term venture for Illstreet also put them in a partnership in which they Co-Executive produced mixtape albums with DJ Magic Mike, DJ Rectangle, DJ Aladdin and more.
The Boondocks audience spans from the age range of 10-50, because of the use of live instrumentation with story telling vocal deliveries that bring real life occurrences that reflect on whoever listens.
The band that makes up Boondocks is as diverse as their music audience. Mexican, Cuban, and Black--a group with a common love for music and their fans. The Boondocks create music that people will remember. The music is done purposely so to create a memorable bond with fans. When asked, when will you exit the business of music, they responded "As Boondocks we will produce 4/5 albums, a live album and a greatest hits album". "We want time to spend with our family but, it's a divine thing".
