Bonnie Parker isn’t your average hardcore rockband. These guys are - unlike most of today’s upcoming bands in the music scene - not trying to be the next best thing. They are not about image, not about egos, not about who’s got the coolest moves or the most expensive gear. They don’t give a shit and that’s in fact what I like about them. Their music is hard and honest and in the end, that’s all that really matters. 'It’s about time bands kicked their fake attitude and started playing music from the heart again!' guitarist and songwriter Ronny Razor agrees.

The band was initially brought together early 2005 out of ex-members of the infamous Relapse-signed grindcore act Lengtch'e and chaotic hardcore outfit Spleen. Kevin Loosveld (bass), Ronny Razor (guitar) and Mark Hallaert (drums) started out writing songs in a deserted old factory building near Kortrijk (Belgium). When in September of that same year vocalist Karel Lamote joined in to complete the band, things clicked and the songwriting took up a fresh vibe. This resulted in a three-song demo the band recorded in January 2006. The first couple of shows followed shortly after and by now the band has already been all over the country introducing their music to the Belgian kids.

As for their music, the band simply breathes rock’n’roll. Kevin Loosveld (bass): “Rock’n’roll is just our primary influence, I guess. Thin Lizzy, AC/DC, Queen, etc. These are the bands we grew up with before we got into underground music. We all like the riffs, we like the groove and we like to mix it all up with other styles and try to create something new.”

If anything, one can say that the hardcore and punkrock influence is very present in Bonnie Parker’s music and approach. “True,” singer Karel Lamote agrees, “after all we’re still a band hailing from the hardcore/punk scene. And we try to take things back to basics, put in some DIY again, and inspire people with our music and lyrics. Maybe things can’t be the way they were a couple of years ago, but we can at least try to build something meaningful again.”

When I ask for any last words to round things up, drummer Mark Hallaert grabs me by the neck and pulls me around jumping. “Bonnie Parker 2008, aiming for total destruction, baby!” he yells while trying to wrestle me onto the ground. And I think he couldn’t be more right…
